Pricing a car
« on: August 23, 2017, 05:43:55 AM »
Thought long & hard when I came to 25k for my car.
Adds on a number of sites & not one question (yet).
Wrong time to sell ?
People think the price high ?
(25k CDN = about 20k USD)

I know the car needs some to be finished, but thought it would sell quick......... thoughts ?

Likely going to pull the engine & sell it. Build another 302w & put it in it & sell the car. Not sure when, but likely this winter.

You've put a LOT into your car but it's going to take a very special person to purchase it.  It's not what the "average Joe who wants a Pinto" is looking for, and it's way beyond the price he is willing to pay.  Hang in there, though... I believe there is someone out there who's looking for exactly what you have!

This first V8 Pinto (yellow) is listed at $18,900 and very well built, complete and clean.

The second Pinto V8 (red) is listed at $7,500. It is more a clean but not purpose built race car.

Sadly restored or "built" cars almost never return the investment.  People aren't tripping over themselves to own a Pinto, a car that is often the butt of jokes. Much less are they willing to pay for a select, modified car that is built to some else's tastes.  I'd say to consider not only the two V8 Pinto's I've found (that are priced over a broad range) but look for others too. Then compare the stated price of those cars to an honest (void of emotion) elevation of your car to get an appropriate asking price. That Yellow Pinto is VERY nice and you state yours still needs some completion yet the yellow car is priced $1,000 below what you are asking.  Lastly, follow these cars because if they sit for a long time they might be too high to begin with.

Agreed, look at others.  My friend sold his 78 cruising wagon for 3.5k with 302 installed
Looked as good as those.  Sadly I passed and he was willing to sell to me for 3k.  It takes that certain buyer.

Looks like I'll (likely) be pulling the engine and selling it.

I'll build another 302w (mild) and put that in. Then price about 10k to 13k CDN.

When I started this project, it was supposed to be down for about 6 months. Figured I had a couple go fast years left in me....it's been 8 (?) years now........
Been a couple bad years for me now. This one is a down right train wreck. Need the cash.
Was hit with a nasty storm about an hour ago.
Most shingles are off the roof & lots of trees down, blocking the wife in at home. Of course, I'm a days drive away from home.
Top that off with canceled home insurance.
16th our 16 year old "baby" Bear (Cat) had to be put down. Hitting the wife & I very hard.
Plus a ton of other stuff....... wife is cranky. Wants to sell everything & move (with me) to another Province.

Sorry for the sort of rant....... it will not happen again.

Blue car will go forward. I have little into it & have most of the parts I need.
Plan is to keep it till I can no longer drive a "go sort of fast" car.

No need to apologize. It is an unpleasant set of circumstances you are dealing with and a difficult reality of what you have invested in the car vs what you can get for it.  It isn't as if you come here all the time complaining about your circumstances.  Do the best you can and stay on a steady course to function within your means. Just take the time to make the wisest choices and not act impulsively.

Lastly as we all get older the failing body and potentially dwindling finances bring a new reality. How we deal with it is all about perspective.  There are a lot of people in poor health, difficult finances and short of accomplishing life's goals that still have a unforced smile on their face.

Not a problem - if you can't blow off a little steam among friends, then where can you?  Sorry to hear about the run of misfortune; those sorts of things are never easy.  Hope you can find the right buyer and get the cash you need out of your car.

Agreed with the others. I've done my fair share of venting, and while there are a couple that don't want to hear it the majority are and have been supportive. While we may not have met we are a tight knit community with the same hobby of this car, whether it be driving, modifying, or restoring them.

We are all human, and it helps to unload from time to time. Beats the alternative. Hang in there and hope things can go your way with selling the car, and your bad luck as come to a close.

Thanks guys. Been more bad things than I mentioned. Likely the worst year of my life.....but pulling through it OK so far.

House roof. Good thing is, I have a huge pile of new tin ....tired of shingle damage nearly every year. Contractor came out & put a plastic (silage cover I had for another project) to protect till the tin is put on.

My lane way is 1800 ft long. To the west is the road, then a creek, then shelter belt (trees) then lane way (drive way ? LOL !)

I'm off work next Friday & when I get home (late that day) the first thing I have to do is meet the wife that will have my chain saw etc ready , so I can get back to the house. Or I'll just drive through the field/crop that another person is growing. He is farming part of my property (without permission) anyway.

Bear. He was a kind & loving buddy. He seemed to be stuck at a youthful age & was loving, friendly to all & I picked him up as a tiny Kitten. " OH, WHAT A LITTLE BEAR " !
The wife & I get really attached to our "family members" .....way too much.....I know it may be hard for others to understand.
But we didn't/don't have kids......

Bear was quite a handsome boy. It's easy to see how he could steal your heart. No matter how long a furry family is with us, it always hurts when they cross the rainbow bridge. We are another couple without kids and have ever type of creature from horses to guineas living on our place. We kid that if archaeologists of the future ever excavate our land, they will wonder what kind of animal worshipping cult we were!
