This seems to fall in the category of, "What rock have I been living under..., Why am I always the last to know?"  A few years back I bought a set of steel Rallye wheels off a Mustang II.  I painted them up, Installed 175-70-13" tires, and put them on my Pinto. I was glad to have them.  A while back I acquired two 205-60-13" tires (now that the Turbo 2.3 is installed) and thought I'd get get myself two more steel Rallye wheels to mount them on.

Today I found a set of two at the Pick Your Part 50% off sale.  Some how the $7.49 ea. wheels cost me $26 and change out the door. Anyway, I'm not here to gripe about Pick Your Part prices (like I normally do). - I get the wheels home and start to clean them. Suddenly I start to (now) notice subtle differences.  WHAT? Ford made the wheel slightly different... for what purpose???

While the pictures tell the story the differences I notice are:
1. The center hole is different.  One hole curves over and I haven't a clue what type of center cap is used.  The other hole has four notches in it to hole the chrome and reflective red center cap.
2. The four slotted holes are different sizes. One hole being larger and somewhat more pointier on the outer curves.
3. The center section is different where it meets the rim.  One wheel has an outward protruding lip where it meets the rim. The other just curves over.

 How did I never notice this?  I had bought one center cap a while back thinking they are all the same. Today I found three more and purchased them (about $8.50 out the door).  So, I spent $10 in gas, $4 in admission fees, and $35 for wheels that I'm not too desiring to use since they don't match the other four I have.  I hate when I waste 4 hours in the hot sun spending $50 and come away with parts I don't really want (or now need).  I should have just popped the 175's off and put the 205's on for FREE.  The older I are, the stupider I be!

BTW, I'm finding the same issue with other Ford rims.  A few months ago I got a set of 14" SSP look a like wheels.  These had the standard, round center hole.  Since then all I have been able to find is the center hole with four notches and the small square holes for the center cap mount.  Otherwise the wheels look identical.  Ford and their subtle changes is like people who are always fussing with their hair.

  OK, I'll shut up. Just been a week where most things have gone wrong.  Thought a trip to Pick Your Part would have reversed, not added to it.  Guess I should think - again.

I checked and the Capri wheels while similar are different.   The Mustang II site has a wheel chart, but the wheels in the illustration didn't seem different. I saw an image (Google Images) of a 1975 Mustang II that had the wheel style like the first image I posted.  So, it seems there are two styles.  I think...?
