Lower Control arm bolt
« on: February 23, 2018, 09:24:56 PM »
This post is for anyone who has trouble finding a lower control arm bolt and removing said rusted bolt. This is for 76 to 80. If your Pinto has sat for yrs like mine 26yrs the lower control arm bolt maybe rusted to the inner bushing sleeve. Best way to get this out is lots of penetrating oil. Try to rotate the bolt so you can see the slit in the bushing sleeve and use any type of chisel n hammer to split it open as much as you can put more oil inside the split. After it has sat try and get a pair of vise grips that will fit between the frame n control arm and clamp onto the sleeve and use a impact or breaker bar and have at it lol. But make sure the sleeve doesn't turn and only the bolt. You may hear a few snaps. So after you have gotten it out and it is not in good shape or to your liking. If you go to https://www.fastenal.com
This is the part #0142796 and the bolt specs
1/2 - 13x4.5 grade 8 flange phosphate finish. Was $5 a bolt.

It doesn't have a big taper and just a hair sorter but don't worry it will still stick out about 1/2 an inch on the opposite side.
Hope this helps.

Thanks I couldn't find anyone on the forum that had put out the specs. And no online auto parts store had any listing even none for the
Mustang 2.
