Title: Pinto Times Magazine Ceases Publication
Post by: FlyerPinto on July 13, 2012, 03:05:21 PM
Well folks, I'm sorry to say that Pinto Times is ceasing publication. To date I've received less than a dozen subscriptions and I needed 200 to make it go. I can't get advertisers without subscribers and it just wasn't happening. To the folks who already paid for your subscriptions, I will be voiding and returning your checks. The Paypal transactions will take me a bit longer to figure out how to do, but I will get them done. If somehow I miss someone, contact me and we'll get it worked out. I may be able to work out an online version, that is still being bounced around, and if something comes of it I'll be sure to let everyone know.

As a result I will be selling my project car, a red 1977 Mercury Bobcat hatchback with the 2.3L engine and all attendant parts, including a roof section with a factory sunroof that is separate from the car, two of the new rear quarter fenders (the entire quarter up to the hatch lip) from American Muscle, a separate fuel tank, door skins and other goodies. I'll post them as soon as I can.

I appreciate the support from those of you who subscribed, and I'm sorry I can't continue publication. It was a lot of fun.

As much as I will be maligned for saying so, it's a reflection on the membership here, because so few people care(d) to subscribe. As a subscriber, I was thrilled to both read and provide articles for this publication.

Thank you Matthew for making the effort. Doubtful we'll ever see another publication like this, I wish you all the best.

It's a shame that with 7000 +/- members here, you couldn't get a measley two hundred subscriptions. I had high hopes when I renewed my subscription, but I guess I should have known better.  Pinto Times was always a class act and I can only say that those who never saw it were the true losers in all this.  Whether we blame it on member apathy or the lousy economy, the fact remains that we have allowed a superb publication to die and I believe we are all a little poorer for that.  Pinto Times will be missed. :'(

I subscribed a long time ago and wondered why I never got it, now I know. It is too bad, I know I would love reading it!

unfortunate, I will treasure the issues I have, sorry this didn't work out. Matt, you did a first class publication, don't let it disappoint you that you were unable to continue, that's on those that never stepped up to help make this possible.

There may be 7000 +/- members registered here but how may are actually active?  That is the problem ( and I have to admit I don't post as much as I used to either), there aren't enough "active" members to come up with that big of a demand. Even though 200 sounds small, it really isn't compared to the "active" members.

I will be the first to say I didn't re subscribe because I knew that there is no chance to get 200. I did enjoy the magazine though, and would have subscribed again if there wouldn't have had been a minimum that had to be made (subscribers). I wish it wouldn't cost that much to do. Maybe an online version would work? Wouldn't cost that much for that! :D

Sadly, that's the kind of "voter apathy" that gets politicians into office. People figure "why would my (vote) make a difference", so they don't vote or subscribe. If 187 other people here had the same attitude about "never reaching 200" (200 minus the 12 subscribers = 188), it killed the publication. I never understood how people could think that way.

In the words of Geddy Lee: "if you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice".

Matt--I am truly sorry it's going down this way, through NO fault of your own.
This is a sign that some people don't know a good thing even when it is right
under their noses!!  I would like to say that you are a gentleman, having met you

MATTHEW GUNTER was IN this venture.  All our best to you & family.

I have to be honest, I've been restoring my '66 Mustang and am finally finished.  Now I'm starting to do some work on my grandfather's pinto.  I realize how much I actually enjoy driving this thing and would like to be more active here too.  With that being said, and only checking in on here intermittently in the past, I actually know basically nothing about the publication.  Perhaps not enough people know about it?  But print material is dying no matter how you look at it.  I think an online version of this would probably be something much more feasible.  Just my $.02 for what its worth.  What kinds of articles were in the magazine?

Waldo,

All kinds of goodies about Pintos and Bobcats and other car related items. I still have some issues left if you are interested.

Thanks for doing this.  I will cherish the copies I have, and was honored to have graced the pages. Unfortunately there are not too many of us around and not everyone is here to have ordered one.  you see Pinto's on the road and wonder who they belong to and wonder why they haven't found a home here. But that is the way it is.  All we can say is Thank You for the Times we shared!
