Title: Pinto in shows
Post by: sedandelivery on August 15, 2015, 07:14:17 PM
One category my Pinto life is different. I often attend car shows with my Pintos, but seldom show them. I get lots of " heys and has" when I drive into the parking lot, though.

hi if I am going to a show cruise in or a club meeting I always take my wagon.i am a member of a local car club called the 209 rustbuckets.we get invited to the Modesto nuts baseball games and we show our cars on the concourse of the stadium .I also go to local car shows and get a lot of interest on folks who had a pinto growing up and younger people who have never seen a pinto.i have a fordpinto.com decal on my front windshield and talk up the club when I get the chance. I drive my 80 wagon(totoally UNfinished) all over the place. Have entered it in shome shows, recieved a sponsor plaque and a 3rd place unfinished class award. we have an event here called cruisin the coast. ( http://cruisinthecoast.com/ ) and I will put my car right in there with the bets in show winners.  I get 4 responses out of it when I am at the shows...1 the older crowd (my parents age) ME AND MY WIFE HAD ONE JUST LIKE THAT WHEN WE FIRST GOT MARRIED...2my age crowd MY FRIEND HAD ONE LIKE THAT IN HIGH SCHOOL...IT HAD A V8 AND MAN WE COULD OUT RUN ANYTHING...... 3 the younger crowd (my kids age) MAN I WOULD DROP THAT THING...PUT A WING ON THE BACK AND A FART SOUNDING MUFFLER ON IT....4 the youngest crowd ( grand kids age) DAD WHAT KIND OF CAR IS THAT???

I show mine almost every weekend during the car season at cruise nights or shows or special events. I get constant comments about the looks and get winks from the ladies when they peek into the back of the wagon. Unlike the older 40s and 50s cars everybody either rode one as a kid, drove one as a teen or crashed one. They all know someone who had one. All closet pinto lovers.  8)

I showed mine this year for the first time. It really wasn't ready so I kept the hood closed.

As was mentioned, almost every other person walking by had a story or a thumbs up for me. It really shocked me.

Much to my surprise, I won first in my category of 1970's Stock. It got me kinda pumped. So, now I've re-chromed the bumpers, painted covers in the engine compartment and plan to have my driver's seat re-upholstered.

Just wait till next year. ;)

I just got the Pinto on the streets a few weeks ago, took it to a show at our VA hospital. It was not a judged show, but still had quite a few people spend some time looking the Hot Rod over. Do plan to make some PCCA events next year and show it and race it.

Unbelievably, I've won 5 trophies at car shows with mine.  Seriously.  Five. With *my* car.  And every time I've reacted with utter shock.

I bought this 74 in a package deal with an enclosed trailer for my race Pinto. I was invited to show the car at my old high school for an all years reunion. It was a hoot. I got a lot of attention on the drive to and from the show as well as the show. Thumbs up and people screaming out their car windows as I drove by. It is dead bone stock with original paint, vinyl top, interior and 28,950 miles. 2.0 C-4. I put a copy of the original sticker in the window and my graduation tassel hanging from the rearview mirror. Like posted above, everyone had a pinto story. No awards where given out but it did make the Facebook page of the local news paper. They parked me next to a "Vega". It just happened to be a Facel Vega not a Chevy Vega. How ironic...
