Pinto goes to a car show
« on: June 12, 2010, 07:50:05 AM »
I took my Pinto to a small town car show Friday night.
This show attracts many of the town residents.
I was parked between a Chevelle and a 56 Tbird.
Quite a few people stopped to look saying they had one or their parents had one.
I have been to other shows that consist mostly of cars guys where the Pinto gets minimal attention.  The general public, however, still has a fascination with Pintos.

The "car guys" don't pay us much attention unless it has a V8 or turbo... usually they are only concerned about HP and mods. The general public on the other hand.... they love us and some really like to see our cars. That's the only fun part about going to the shows I have found....

I keep considering getting a bumper sticker for my cars that says.... "compensating for.... absolutly nothing!" just for the "car guys" and their big motors... LOL!!!!

have any pictures to post of you at the show?

Those so-called "car guys" are actually car snobs. They don't truly love cars- just ones within a stringent guideline. I'm glad you had fun though!

no... I'm refering to the "car guys" that come running when they see the Pinto roll in, come rushing over and ask to pop the hood looking for a V8 and when they don't see one... say you should then walk away shaking their head, mumbling under their breath and wondering why anyone would bring a Pinto to a car show... them "car guys"

here's a perfect example and story... last year I tore the engine bay down on my white '78 - block and trans only. Cleaned up all the rust and bad paint, cleaned every part and painted, I polished and cleaned everything... that engine bay looks better than new. So I take it to the local cruise night at the Grand Rapids DQ and open the hood... I was proud and was willing to show off a bit.... the "car guys" heard me pull in and none came to look why I had the hood open... I didn't exist in their world... they didn't hear the rumble of a V8... so the kid and I went in the DQ to get a snack and as we come out... I caught a few sneaking over for a look and they quickly walked away shaking their heads, mubbling I'm sure... wow... where's the V8... LOL!!!!

better yet! I'll put it under the hood and when they ask if I have a V8 in there I can say I do. I'll even open the hood to show them! Ohhhh... I like that idea!  ::)  ;)

Brian,

I did not take any pictures but there was a young girl that took picture after picture of the Pinto.
The funniest part was the twelve year old boy who said these cars catch fire and blow up when they get hit.  I was laughing.
Of course there was the time a Chevette hit me in the butt going 55 mph (I was going 10 mph).  Boy, you want to see a Pinto accelerate!
There were Chevette parts lying all over the road, it was a terrible scene.
I drove away after the police finished their report.

Jerry

Last year when I took the 78 to the local Burger Time (old style burger joint) drive-in car show, I would have lots of couples and families come up and ask about the car. I had three groups who came up to the car and took at least 20 pictures of the car! One of those families said "I didn't realize there were that many photographic angles to a Pinto!". Got LOTS of kicks about the car, 99% good, 1% bad.

Hopefully it gets some good feedback in the next couple weeks at the BIG show here in Emmett Idaho.

Makes me wonder how many people REALLY loved their pinto back in the day. I have so many people telling me "I had a center console like that in my car when i bought it new from Ford!"....Umm....Pin tos never came with center consoles! lol

Yeah I've heard of the "four door wagon" myself! lol.

Dave, some did have center consoles. Not like a Mustang II or Fox Body 'Stang but still... and they might be thinking of a different definition of "center console"- like the little one offered on early Pintos that had the built-in clock (I would LOVE one of those for Ruby!).

I went to a show on fathers day. My car was looking good. I had the hood open when a lady walks around it and is looking it over really good. She then asked if I would shut the hood so that she could take a couple of pictures. Of course I did thinking she must of had one like it at one time. So she takes some pictures, and then she tells me that she is going to make a poster of it. I'm loving it ,and then she tells me it's for her grandson. Wow and kid that likes Pinto is more unusual than one that knows what one is. Then she tells me that her daughter tells her grandson " if you don't go to shool and get an education, that you will grow up and drive a Pinto". Talk about Pinto bashing!

I've found that at the shows I have done that even some of the hot rod guys like the Pintos. Of course, being parked next to Mike Street's Boss Pinto didn't hurt! They look at his spotless modified car and go "wow", and then they look at mine, which is more like the Pinto they had, or their parents had, or the one they had in college....... .The KABBOOM license plate is always a hit and gets many photos. I'm hoping my new paint, later this summer, will get me a little more wow!
