Interesting, I did not know that they sold Pinto's in England.  I thought they only had Capri's, Cortina, Consul, etc.
While on the subject of the S&H stripe, I sure like this Pinto that is currently listed on eBay.
If I did not have the 3 car garage full I would buy it for sure!
1973 Pinto 1600 - Sold!
1979 Pinto 2300 - Sold!
1984 Audi 5000 Avant - 60,000 original miles
1987 Audi 5000 S Quattro - The snowmobile
1973 Volvo 1800 ES wagon -  my project car
1976 Mustang II - Wifey's new toy

hi starliner, that is why it was such a shock the pinto was never sold new in england hence my amazement to see another especially in the s&h paint scheme we actually had another pinto in crewe it was a mettalic blue runabout only ever saw it once,
you have to appreciate this town is tiny only about 8 mile radius
we did get the mustang 2 sold new but converted to rhd at import

Also why would a private man import a pinto here to england for a start it was lhd it was a compact car and not a musclecar so no real use to us over here we had the capri as a sports car which in fairness the pinto was never intended for i remember being gutted to se a comparrison between a pinto and a vw beetle crikey i was mortified, remember i was a kid and this pinto looked low n wide had a 2 litre mtr that was above average size over here and then compared it to a beetle  ::)

i think the pinto,s that came here were brought over by your serviceman doing a tour out here and brought there cars with them but never took them back home my dads came from a usa airforce base up in scotland,,

That makes perfect sense to me!

I've never been to Crewe but I'm well acquainted with the craftsmanship found in the cars built there.  I own a 1997 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur; not the last year, but the last series of the true all-Crewe-built Rolls-Royces.  Magnificent!

I always find it interesting that a person can be devoted to vehicles at such totally opposite ends of the automotive spectrum!  Interestingly enough, my 1972 Pinto Squire wagon was originally a California car and, while there, shared a garage with a Silver Shadow and a Corniche!  I think that asking how many Pinto owners also own a PMC would yield a relatively small number, but I can't help wondering how many Rolls & Bentley owners own, or have owned, a Pinto?  I guess that would be a question better posed in the RROC forum.
