I just got the Pinto back from the shop all ready to drive it. I had a coolant leak taken care of and everything looks fine with that now. But once i got it home i parked. let it sit for a bit to just check up on this after driving. I tried to start it again and nothing happened. nothing but a held out beep that seems to be coming from the dash, and all the lights light up {check engine, alternator, brake etc) but absolutely no sound from the engine at all. not whining, no clicking. nothing. Im thinking its a pretty easy fix like something is just disconnected but i can't seem to find the problem anywhere. does anyone have any suggestions on some things that could be causing this problem?

what tranny.... auto maybe not fully in park????
-
This particular one is a 4 speed :/.

Check all battery, starter & solenoid connections 1st to see if something is loose.
-
First thing check all grounds.
-
As stated above, grounds first and then move to solenoid, and/or starter. That's about it under the hood. Only other thing I can think of would be the ignition switch at the base of the steering column, but unlikely.

Might wanna look at what the shop did and what area they were in if the problem showed up as soon as work got done.
-
found it! they had a little button installed to actually start the engine inside the hood to use while working on the engine. simple cable got disconnected. that was easy.

Hope it's good and WATERPROOF.... .............. .......had one installed and worked fine till one night about 3 in the morning was accelerating up to speed on freeway entrance ramp and all of a sudden the most Godawful racket you ever heard, the switch had shorted to make starter come on at high engine speed. Dunno how I didn't tear the starter/bell housing up. In the middle of summer and no rain for a month, switch was bone dry inside but also had heavy evidence of water getting inside to corrode parts massively. And the switch was chosen because it WAS waterproof so I dunno......... ..
