1973 Paint Trivia
« on: May 09, 2012, 04:54:02 PM »
Hi all - I had a 1973 Pinto  8) .  I've always referred to the color as "mint green".  It had, what I think, are called "hot pants" white stipes on the side.   It also had 2 big white stripes on the hood.   I've look at various websites with 1973 Ford colors and cannot find this color.  I find a light green but this was a very bright mint color.   Where there some limited edition colors?  Was there something called a California Special edition?  Last, does anyone know the actual Ford name for this color?

HI WBC, I WAS A PPG PAINT JOBBER FOR YEARS AND HAVE ALL THE PAINT BOOKS BACK TO 1927. IT WOULD BE HARD TO EXPLAIN COLOR VARIANCES WITHOUT LOOKING AT COLOR CHIPS BUT YOU HAVE 2 CHOICES, GOING DOWN TO YOUR LOCAL AUTO PAINT STORE OR YOU CAN TRY LOGGING ONTO "METROMUSCLECAR S" WEBSITE AND CLICK ONTO 'PAINT CHIPS 1965-1973 AND GO TO  "1973 EXTERIOR COLOR CHART" AND YOU MAY FIND THE COLOR. KEEP IN MIND THAT METALLIC COLORS DON'T SHOW UP VERY WELL UNLESS VIEWED AS A PAINT CHIP. IF YOUR CAR WAS A SPRING SPECIAL, AND THE COLOR WASN'T ON THERE THEN IT COULD APPEAR ON THE 1974 COLOR CARD. IF YOU NEED ANY FURTHER INFO ON COLORS LET ME KNOW. HOPE THAT HELPS, DAVE
