Pinto & Bobcat
« on: March 27, 2012, 05:34:41 AM »
May have found a pair !
Talking with the guy it sounds like the Pinto is a 71-73.
No idea on the Bobcat yet. But sounds like a parts car.
Original owner was going to put the V6 from the Bobcat into the Pinto.
Guy tells me the Pinto is in mint shape.
He is sending pictures.
So, may have the second Pinto I need for all the 302w parts I have !
I'm a bit excited about this find !

It's hard to get time off work, but if I do get April 4th off, I'll be picking the Pinto up !
Bobcat will be delivered some time down the road.
Didn't want the Bobcat, but it's a take both sort of deal.
Likely part the cat out.....

When someone tells you the car is "absolutely perfect" you should be thinking "BS" !

I'll post pictures over the next few days.....

It's hard to see all the rust etc in the pictures.
The car is restorable. But it is unlikely I'll do it.
All rubber parts are toast.
Interior is toast. Big mouse damage.
Front windshield toast.
Needs fenders & doors & rear quarters.
No engine. 4 spd trans may be re-buildable ?
Engine compartment looks suprisingly good.
Front grill has no broken fins !

Bobcat is complete toast. Inside and out. Left it there.

I wanted some parts off the Pinto so brought it home.

Since it is on the trailer, I'll take it to town & get an est on body work (I don't do body work).

From what I looked at so far, the floor pan looks OK. Frame rails are good.

Lowest he would go on the Pinto was $250.00
I know it was too much, but wanted the hood & front bumper.
Finding both of those in the States & shipping would have cost more than that. (I am in Canada)

Bobcat is free.
If someone needs parts from the Bobcat, shoot me a PM & I'll put you in touch with the guy. He is in Alberta Canada.

Problem with that is it would likely cost me 20k (or more) to do a resto on the Pinto here in Alberta. Costs are through the roof on body work.
After that & a good drive train it would put the car 30k or more.
As can be seen in the cars for sale section, a person can buy a finished V8 car for 10k or less.

Took a bunch of pictures.
You should be able to left click the first picture. It should pop up bigger. Then you can click the next button to see each one in big mode.
If you have questions, please look for the IMG number of picture. I will try and answer your questions or take better pictures.
I jacked it up & took a screw driver to the floor. Solid. Couldn't punch it through any place.
The rust inside the back wheel wells would be cured with tubs.
Car is in too good of shape to use as a parts car. With fenders, doors and rear quarters very little rust would be left to deal with.
Media blast , prime. Use a rust proofing type stuff on the floor pan.

It needs all new rubber though. I mean anything with rubber in/on it.
Also needs an interior.

Still looking for body part prices. So far it looks like about 500 for fenders. 500 for rear quarters. Haven't found doors yet. Likely 500 ! LOL !

Oh ya.... with the parts I can sell , I'll pay for the car ? I have the drive shaft, alt, trans, diff , rad & some other parts.

Added a few more pictures.
I'm still not sure what to do with the car.
For what it would cost to do a full resto, I can buy a rust free CA or AZ car for less. If I could find one.

Looks like a resto/build is a go !

I can have the car glass blasted , with front fenders, doors and rear quarters off, car stripped, for about $400.00.
Complete epoxy primer for about $150.00.
