What type oil works the best in a 1980 2.3 litre engine? I am guessing 10/30 or what works best?

10/30 of any major brand is fine. If you can, ask who ever you got it from what he used.

10w-30w with added zinc or you will wipe your cam lobes and or distributor gear. Note most if not all modern engine oils do not have enough zinc or ZDDP due to both closer tolerances and smog laws .. You have far fewer choices about oil.
And no the diesel oil called Rotella used to good however these days no! For the same reasons....

We use Rotella in the Railroad car generator and the backhoe, what oil today has enough zinc in it? My Bobcat runs so well, I want to keep it that way. Thank you for the reply.

I've owned 16 Pintos since 1972, and all up to this day, used over the counter major brands of oil. (Wall Mart oil too). I have NEVER lost even one cam in this time. In 1974/75 the Ford 2300 cams were junk if you ran the oil until it turned to tar. I've always changed mine at 3000 miles. On high mile car I would add STP. I found when I was just out of school to always try to find out what kind of oil had been used in the car before and keep on using it. 2300 Cams are made with a profile very much like a roller cam and as such wear like a roller cam. Keep the oil clean and NO day glow orange Fram filters and you'll be just fine. This post is just what I do. Use your brain and all will be ok.
