Pick Your Part is at it - AGAIN!
« on: February 17, 2014, 01:21:33 PM »
Feb. 14, 2014 I went to the Sun Valley, CA. Pick Your Part for their 50% off sale. I had gone to look for tires and found two that met my needs. I went out to the car and got my pry bars to remove the tires.  The kid at the gate checked me back in (and made no mention regarding my pry bars).  So, I pull the  tires, pay for them and as I'm getting checked out at the gate another guy (who is acting like an  ex-cop) tells me I wasn't suppose to pull the tire off the rim myself.  AND..., if I get caught next time they will escort me out! Mind you there  were no signs prohibiting this - anywhere.  I've been going to this yard for 35+ years and people were always pulling tires off rims.

What a rip-off.  They now want you to  pay for the rim too, or pay $3 per tire to have THEM take the tire off. On sale days you may have to stand in line 45 minutes to pay for the removal (you pay at the cashier for the service first - then go over to the service), wait 45 minutes until they get around to removing your tires, then stand back in line (likely another 45 minutes) just to pay for the tires.

BTW, Mr Gate Check Out Guy had interrogating me when I initially went back to the car  the first time for my pry bars.  I hadn't bought anything (yet), and he was seriously "questioning me" about  what cars I had come to get parts off.  Like if I didn't have a quick and  earnest answer I was probably stealing stuff. The irony is there is another self serve yard that runs a scanner over you as you exit.  But 75% of the time they just wave my honest looking face through unscanned.

witnessed a guy getting haggled for this at the Barlow Calgary Alberta Pick n Squish. he just wanted the rims because the tires where junk, i guess he pulled them off of a car that had sat for a long time and destroyed the rubber. same deal they told him he was not allowed to do so and if he tried to again he would be escorted out, without his parts.

Hey some of them got their prissy little rules......... .........and why I don't deal with them. Luckily I have scads of yards to go to here.

I've had them grouse over me removing ANYTHING, they insisted they must do it and them alone. Needless to say I never went back there. Other places it's wide open and they do not even look close at a bucket of small parts I come out with, I potentially can make a $100 bill plus every time I go there.

I've been known to strip the card out of say an CCRM or IRCM to get it for pennies before. No need paying for all of it. Same with a PCM, I just tell them it was already out and simply laying there from the last guy........... .............a round here you can walk out with $200 VCT solenoids for like $5-$10. Wonderful.

Just took out a Focus seat, needed the back steel internal support structure only, $5.......................

Just like anything else always a few that has to screw up a good thing, I've gone to Pick-a-Parts before and I've watched guys get one part and fill up their pockets and tool box with a bunch of small stuff but just pay for the one part, they're not stupid they see a car getting raped but yet no parts getting sold so they put two and two together, now everyone has to suffer for it and it's a dam shame..
