The Oakland Tribune reported today, Thursday March 5, that an unidentified 51 year old Oakland California man was found dead in a single vehicle highway crash. CHP were investigating another crash nearby when alerted by a passing motorist of the accident. Police found a wrecked 1973 Pinto with a distinstictive paint job with a fatality. Name not released.

Found it, he crashed on Hwy 101 in Sonoma County. Next of kin TBN It appears to be a 72 wagon with a custom paint job. No time of accident, nor witnesses have come forward...

I certainly hope it wasn't one of our members! :( :-\ :'(

I was thinking this was a old story.didnt know it was recent

I found and read the Oakland Tribune article. The accident apparently happened Tuesday, March 3.
Still no word as to the identity of the driver.

Hey Alberto, where you at?
-
First off Steve, I am 34.
More importantly, who has a 72 wagon? I know Mike with the Boss Pinto has one (a multi color mess last time I saw it so I assume it is not that car) but his friend has a blue turbo 72 wagon. Still not distinctive? Where is it saying that it is a wagon? S*&# this is worrying me.

Where did you find this?
It was in the online version of the Oakland Tribune... look at the traffic and roads information and the story is there.

I first checked the Oakland Tribune, but then I remembered that anything you want to find out about in Napa/Sonoma County, is usually in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. That's my source, No new info posted yet.

Well I have called everyone I know. I'm going to call the number listed in the article to see if information can be passed on to me once next of kin are notified.

Update: The Sonoma County coroner’s office has identified a man who was found dead in his vehicle near Asti last Tuesday night as 51-year-old Carl Leo Minns. Minns, an Oakland resident, was driving a 1973 Ford Pinto wagon on northbound U.S. Highway 101 north of Asti Road when it overturned off of the right shoulder and went down an embankment.
I also found his facebook page with pictures of him and his Pinto at Burning Man 2014

Thanks Brian. I met this guy a bunch of times. Funny as hell and that Pinto totally matched his personality. Saw him at burning man the first time. He will be missed.

He does look like he was a fun one to be around, sorry I didn't get to meet him myself.

After browsing through his pictures, I think it's safe to say Carl Minns was a true character! I'm sure he will be missed.
Dwayne :)

Man, what a drag.
I have a friend who's in the Burning Man crowd and lives parts of the year here in Seattle and in the Bay Area (and digs weird old cars to boot)... I wonder if he knew this Carl fella.
