Bumper weights
« on: January 05, 2012, 03:39:28 PM »
FYI,

52 lbs each(front & back)74-76 chrome plated bumpers w/reinforment bar.
12 lbs each(front & back)77-78 aluminum (no reinforcement bar needed).
6 lbs each(front) 74-76 bumper to frame brackets.
3 lbs each(front) 77-78 bumper to frame brackets.

I saved a total of 86 lbs switching to the aluminum bumpers and front brackets!
Forget my New Years resolution to lose weight to improve my gas mileage, ha, ha !!!

I remember seeing a thread where a member modified the late model bumpers to pill them into the body closer.
I wish I could find that thread.  I would like to do that to wifey's 79 Pinto this summer.
I am sure I could figure it out, but a little BTDT makes things easy.

Here is the thread for bumpers. I did it on a 77. don't know if it will work for other years.

I just found this post, good info.  I was going to look for early bumpers because I like the look of the smaller bumpers, but now I may just swap for the lighter aluminum bumpers and push them in closer.
