Title: My first Pinto.
Post by: Pintoman1971 on June 21, 2015, 10:41:11 PM
Picked up this ride off of a local facebook ad about 8 months ago. Some highschooler did some work for an older lady and it was her husbands car and he passed away, when he finished working for her she took him to a barn and had a few cars and said he could have whichever one he wanted. He chose the 71 runabout with an extra rebuilt trans. If the speedo was correct it had just over 3k miles were not sure if it rolled over or not. This car is all original. Shortly after he got it from her he had someone "rebuild" the carb. Doesnt look like its been rebuilt, but anyway.. he didnt have the know how to tune the carb and couldnt get it running without it dying. We went and picked it up instantly right when we saw the ad. Within a very short amount of time my dad had it running perfectly, and replaced valve seals as well. Buffed it out due to the paint being a bit dull, waxed her up and I drove it for around 5 months and all of a sudden the power dissapeared. Did a compression test and the valves were shot. Pulled the head off and took it to the shop and they discovered two cracks in the head. Frantically needing this car for school i posted on this forum in search of a head. I want to give a HUGE shoutout to Dianne for sending me a core head ready for rebuild and charged me just for the price of shipping.  :) The head is rebuild and the pinto is back in action. The last picture is after the buff/wax. Picked this pinto up for $1100 bucks  8)

Have many future plans for this Pinto. Either a t5 or t9 swap depending on which is best, Will be building a high performance 2.0 with sidedrafts and possibly a supercharger. Hoping for somewhere upwards of 200 hp when its completed. But for the time being im just gunna drive the heck out of it  8)

You do realize that the half-window hatches are a 1971 only thing and, as such, are relatively rare.  You got one heck of a deal!  Congratulation s!  Enjoy!

It looks awesome! Now you know you'll have to play it forward one day with someone doing one of their cars on here :)

Congratulation s on getting it going again! And it is a smokin' deal!

I would look into the T9 swap in that particular car before I went cutting and modifying things to fit a T5. The T9 should handle 200hp without much trouble.
