Title: Mpls. MN 1978 Pinto checking in to say Hi!
Post by: caravan3921 on April 12, 2017, 11:10:10 AM
Hi Pinto lovers! It's been a while since we've posted so thought we'd check in and let you know we're still here and own our blue beauty.  Our pinto is still in storage for the winter but we will be getting her out in a couple weeks.  She just turned 30,000 original miles in the fall of 2016.  When we purchased her in 2005 she had only 26,000 miles!  We live in the Mpls area. Kind regards to everyone and see you on the road!
(We should mention she has a moon/sunroof and is in great condition with all original parts and everything working, and no rips or tears  in the interior.  This is an updated and current photo.)

Are you planning on going to the Apple Valley Ford show on June 4th. I am undecided what car to bring, another Pinto may help me decide!

Hello and welcome back.  I am a relatively new Pinto owner and new to this site.  Mine is a 78 Wagon (non-Squire) with 47k mi and in pretty decent shape.  I was curious when you said yourecently replaced you tires, as I need to do the same sometime.  Did you stay with 13' tires or convert to 14", and if so what was involved with that?  I am finding 13" tires are somewhat hard to find.  Thanks for your help and discussion.  Regards, greg.

I certainly also welcome comments from anyone else on the 13" to 14" conversion idea.

Thanks, Greg

Hey Greg , yes the 13s are getting hard to find , and if you do they will look like you put on four space saver tires (donut tires ) last set I brought of the good size was over five years ago and was old stock 195/70/R13 , 14s are also getting kind of limited on certain sizes , and aluminum wheels that fit the pinto are rare , I made to jump to 15s at least for now I still can get tires that are the same height as the the 195/13s  but went taller because the pinto has huge fenders all around , but if you can find a old fox body the had 14 inch steel wheels you can use those , hope this helps you ,

Here is some more info , the 195/70/13 is 23.7 tall ,  the 185/60/15 is also 23.7 tall but wider ,  I changed out my 205/55/15   which is 23.9 tall to a 205/60/15  taller tire 24.7 high , it 8 inchs wide and fits well , got american racing 15 X7 all around , slot wheels , ( i like the old school look)  even though they are 1 inch taller and wider the still look small in the back , the front is just right , I do not want to have two diffrent size tire on the car because i want to rotate them for long life , hope this gives you enough info ,

In July of 2006 we replaced all 4 tires (Firestone) with P165/80R13, white walls. Looking at the original spec sheet that came with car, under TIRES it states: B78x13W5

Call me old school, but I think whitewalls really make the car on stock-looking Pintos.  I bought five for one of mine last year (wanted to make sure I had a matching spare).
