Title: Mizar "Flying Pinto" - Inventors killed by their invention
Post by: Wittsend on April 09, 2019, 05:12:49 PM

The link https://youtu.be/Ui0hzHhmXAE?t=479 (https://youtu.be/Ui0hzHhmXAE?t=479) is to a video titled "5 Inventors that were killed by their invention." It regards the Mizar aircraft more commonly known as the "Flying Pinto." It is only a few minutes long (cued up to the section regarding the Pinto) and is rather well done.  I had the privilege of sitting in one of the Mizar prototypes when Pintony brought it to the Ford Knott's event back in 2009.

I've always found it interesting that the Mizar Pinto crashed on the Pinto's 3rd anniversary.  Ford Pintos went on sale September 11, 1970 and the fatal Mizar crash occurred on September 11, 1973.  Of course, as we all know, September 11 took on a much more sinister distinction decades later with the 2001 terrorist attacks.  Thanks for sharing.  While this history has been addressed here in the past, there are possibly some newer members who were unaware of it.
