Title: help, what is this??
Post by: waldo786 on July 31, 2012, 10:57:36 PM
So I was working on my Pinto today and got the fender off.  I could see this threw the crack, but now I can see all of it now that the fender is off, but what is this?  One of the tubes goes to the air cleaner, the other I couldn't exactly tell.  Any help would be appreciated!

Interesting.  So next question - I'm planning on switching out my engine for a newer one (this one just doesn't seem to run right and hasn't for a few years).  Do I still need this?  It seems newer cars have these as well in the very quick research I did so I'm assuming I would use the one that comes with the new motor?

hi,  the new(er) motor won't come with one (if it does i would be extremely surprised)  just leave it where it is and plumb into it with the new motor. you should keep it (choice is yours) and do you live where they run for emissions?.  Your car might not pass if you don't have it hooked up.  the post i linked to explains what it does and how it works on cars. (yes it was a newer link to toyotas, however, same principals at work.)

cheers

Well the motor I'm planning on putting in there is going to be a much newer version, such as a 2.3L Duratec out of a 01-11 Ranger, so I figure that filter wouldn't apply.  Just figured while I have the whole thing torn apart it would be easy now to pull it out.  I did look at that link it was interesting so thanks for sharing - never knew about them before.

"while I have the whole thing torn apart it would be easy now to pull it out"

true however, if you pull it out and don't replace it or plumb for it and need it you will need to tear it all apart again to redo it.  easier to plumb for it and hook it up in the future if you want it.  it has nothing to do with your motor. it is to exhaust gasoline vapour fumes from the gas tank.
