Well my fuel injection kit arrived and I'm getting together the pieces to do a fuel injection swap. I am curious though if I should be running a header with my setup. The intake I have is an offenhauser 6114dp, 4 barrel throttle body, and I'm planning on getting head work done by bo-port racing - it is there Stage 1 kit which is bigger valves and a stage 1.1 low end torque roller cam. I'm basically just looking to have a nice cruiser car I may make into a daily driver. Would I need a header with this or would the stock exhaust manifold suffice? I was also wondering since I'm going to be using my grandfather's car for some parts if it would make any difference if I pull the heads off that to get worked on or should I use the ones currently on my car. I'm just thinking I can keep driving my car now if I use the heads off my grandfather's car, which is just sitting. The heads in my hatchback have only ~45K miles on them and the ones in my grandfather's car have ~120K miles on them. Not sure if that would make a difference based on the head work I want to have done. Here is a link to what they do with the stage 1 head job :)

So you are putting an aftermarket EFI system in an old N/A Pinto 2.3 ? Correct ? A header might help or check some of the Ranger exhaust manifolds....C heck the Rangerstation. com A good question is why didn't you swap the EFI head on to a old 2.3 engine? I would be cheaper and easier...

what kind of driving (realistically) are you going to be doing with this car?
there is much more to consider before a decision should be made.
what type of trans is in the car now? (or, will you be changing that?)
rear axle ratio?
do you tend to have a 'heavy' right foot?
-
To answer some of your questions, I needed a square bore manifold to fit the throttle body of the kit. The 6114 manifold is supposed to help increase torque across the whole rpm band. You are correct in that I am putting an efi system on an old 2.3 Pinto. Realistically, I'm going to be driving it just as a normal car. As mentioned I may make it into a daily driver depending on how nice it turns out. I don't have a heavy foot, and the trans is a c3 auto, with the possibility of me putting in a a4ld to get the overdrive. I'm not sure about the rear axle ratio off the top of my head.

I'm curious to know how well it works. Try a Ranger header, it has the bung for the oxygen sensor already in it.
I picked up an '87 non-turbo EFI setup from a 2.3L mustang myself.

try to get a long tube header if you can
-
Thanks for the tips. If I go with the ranger header, do I need to modify anything to make it work? What years will bolt on and have the oxygen sensor bung? Thanks!
-
Ranger header bolts right on. No mods needed. I think every one has the bung. You will need to cap the EGR tube which supposedly can be done with a simple pipe cap.

Thanks for the info. I found some online for not too expensive. I also found some headers that aren't too expensive either. They are http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedway-23-Ford-Pinto-Late-Model-Headers,31661.html Not sure if anyone has any experience with them.

I got my Ranger header out of a Pik-a-part for 30 bux & it's stainless steel. The only downside I see to the Speedway header is it would rust out after a few years of daily driving, at least in Ohio anyhow.

I found a pic I snapped before I pulled my engine with the Ranger header in place.

Pinto 5.0, On your ranger header, what did you do to plug up the egr holes? What year header did you use?
