I have my '76 Wagon pulled apart inside and removed the old carpet. I was wondering, the carpet kits you see for the hatchback cars, are the passenger areas the same size, or will I need a different carpet? I had one place tell me they can leave a hatchback carpet untrimmed in the back for an extra 5-7 inches if I need to. Any enlightenment on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

If I remember correctly the passenger comparments on the station wagon and hatch back are all the same and I know they sell them as such.
-
Thanks, I did get order the carpet and definitely will fit. Just have to cut all the holes which is a pain considering I threw away the old one. Doh! Won't do that again!
-
you are better off to set ne new one in and cut a little hole where you need it and go from there, trying to use an old on for a templet is a pain and usally ened up cutting a hole in the wrong spot or too big, did this on my wagon 3 months ago.

The carpet I bought was grossly oversized and I had also thrown away my old rotted carpet. Guessing as to where the carpet should fit, I totally screwed it up and will soon be buying a new one.
Hint of the day: remove the shifter from the transmission and the parking brake, then fit the carpet to the floorpan for the fewest lumps probably starting in the rear footwell. After you've got the best possible fit, THEN start cutting holes (and trimming edges).

started mine by removing all as said above shifter and e brake handle and radio and center console. then put under dash as far as factory then worked my way back, buddy at the interior shop told me to start from the front firewall to the rear floor pans for best results. hope this helps

First, sweet pinto in your signature! I really like that color combo. I did closely what you mentioned when I started installing today. I didn't totally remove the shifter and parking brake. I measured from the bottom of the sound deadening in the middle coming down from the firewall to the first cut for the shifter in the sound deadener (the piece that is the middle that covers around both the shifter and the parking brake). I then took the sound deadener and placed it over my carpet and at 23 inches made a much smaller holes to just get over both the shifter and the parking brake. It seemed to work pretty well. After that I just kept making small cuts to fit the carpet in starting with lining up the back. I trimmed some parts in the front to make it fit under the console, which I took out. I'll hopefully have some pictures up in the next few days. Good luck with yours! And don't feel bad, I've gone through many replacement parts restoring my Mustang - just part of the learning process it seems. Lol, seeing Eric's post, I guess there's more than one way to skin a cat.

I just put a new carpet in my Sedandelivery. Looks great but the ends do not cover the sill plates, I had to use extra carpet to cover them. Make sure you buy a quality carpet! The effort is worth it

Mine seems nice. Haven't quite got it everything all bolted down on it but it definitely seems like it will be enough to cover the sill plates. I got it on ebay from ACC. Here is a link, I'm sure they have more for sale on there if anyone is looking for a carpet. http://www.ebay.com/itm/400294989642?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649. I'll post pics soon when I have it all installed.

Was it one piece or is the pic just generic?
-
The pic is generic, it is a one piece carpet. it fits pretty nice I have to say. I almost finished getting everything buttoned back up inside, I will hopefully be able to post some pics tomorrow after it is all done.
-
Finally got pics of the carpet. Seems really nice - I like it.
-
It came out well! Nice job.

Thanks!
