Well, I finally got another one.
I had been scoping out this 78 hatch for about 12 years. Finally got the nerve to knock on the door and the lady of the house was not at all receptive to me, not sure I didn't se a shotgun barrel at the front window. About two months later the guy was feeding the horse so I stopped and talked to him, he said his wife had been talking about getting rid of a few of her cars. She also had two of the first Datsons sold in Washington. I gave him my number and he said he would gat back to me.
Went back a few weeks later and talked to the wife. She said she was offered $400 for it a few years ago by a guy who wanted to make a race car out of it. She had also seen on listed on CL for $500 that didn't run. Well now I knew that there were no floors in it so it was basicly a parts car. I told her that no one was making race cars any more because they closed down all the small tracks in the area due to developers building subdivisions around them and the counties closing them on their noise ordinances. I also told her that the post on CL had been there off and on for about a year and a half so that doesn't mean that is what it is worth. I buy them running for $200 all the time. The conversation just kind of ended there.
About a week later she was in the yard again so I gave her another card and said I had the $200 but she was set on $400 but asked me when I could move it if I did buy it. I told her if she wanted me to I could hook the trailer up tonight and get it. She said she would let me know. Went by a couple days later and ablout 5 cars were gone.
Had this issue back when I was heavy into Mustangs. Some people have to save face and won't admit they were wrong so they would rather shred it and send it to China than let it come back to the Pinto Community.
The next day I was at the parts store and a guy was trying to get a boot for a Pinto steering rack but of course the kid behind the counter didn't have a clue. Then they were done I said I had about 3 73 racks so maybe I could help him out. We figured out that the rack he was working with, it was in a 53 Rambler Metro with a 454, full roll cage, tubbed etc. wasn't a Pinto. He said he had a Pinto wagon that he used for a few years and parked in his back lot about a year ago. It had a 2.0 that was dead so he put in a 2.3 that he had. Asked how much he wanted, he said about $200. Bought it the next day. I get the 2.0 and the motor mounts too. Have drove it on my 80 mile a day commute about five times now.
He also had a 76 Mustang that I will probably pick up next month.
