First car show of the year
« on: July 31, 2017, 08:27:29 AM »
So I was trolling around looking for car shows I can take my car to, figuring there were none on Sunday, when I came across one that was near my house. I was just going to cut my grass and do my laundry so I figure why not.

I cut the grass, then got cleaned up & went to the car show. It was a blast, although I didn't win anything. I got plenty of compliments from people looking at the car, but nothing from the one doing the judging. Realistically the car is a 20 footer. In pictures she looks really good, but up close you can see the dents, dings, and scratches, as well as rust. The interior is clean but not the cleanest around.

Still I had a good time & the one thing that stood out is one guy that told me the color is great on the car & likes it better than the original blue. The car was painted what I think is a Grabber Blue. I am trying to locate a touch up so I can test that theory on the scratches. That same guy told me "Don't take this the wrong way, but your engine is the nicest looking part of the whole car."

I laughed and told him no offense taken, as I had worked very hard on detailing that engine before dropping it in the car. It was a lot of fun, the car was not happy afterwards. She was not pleased to have not won anything, and I know this because her transmission did not want to engage in to first gear very well afterwards. I hope it's not a sign of issues to come later lol.

I was having issues with Tapatalk so I cannot load pictures, so will try loading them some other way later on.

Great job! That's what its all about. Keep up the good work.

Thanks.

Originally I thought about going back to the original blue but I am seriously considering going with the color it is currently. That would of course mean the engine compartment won't be right but I can redo it later

Looked at pics of Mustangs & other cars & yes, it appears the color on the car very well could be "Grabber Blue". It compliments the interior nicely, but my concern is a darker color would show the flaws she will have.

To late now for a color change. The blue does look like grabber blue and shows really well in your picture. Shineey is great. True about the flaws but that's life. Make the rest of the car take the judge's eyes off the flaws.

Thanks. In person the chips and dings show up bad and the car is in desperate need of a repaint after I fix the rust. I have patch panels. Anyway I figure for now I will get some touch up to take care of the major nicks that show up. I don't know when it was repainted but will do what I can to make it look better for future shows

Lower it down and they will not see rust? Well maybe.

'Fraid not. It's along the bottom of the rockers and the quarters. And up close you can see the many areas where the original paint is showing through due to scratches that took off the respray, not to mention cracked paint. The car really looks better in the pics than it does in person.
