door lock pins

I am trying to get Bob as original as possible. I am interested in the door lock pins in Aurokrafters page 6. The original pins had knob on the top. This was not a good design, as you could put a coat hanger through the door trim and pull up on the knob. The first thing everyone did in those days, for security reasons, was install an aftermarket pin that was a smooth shaft. I have given up on getting any used or nos pins. Do the Autokrafter pins match the original? What was the original color?

Actually, of late I like that knob design, as I've locked my keys in my cars MUCH too often! lol  :P

the ones on my bobcat were chrome and round head  i replaced them with some from the parts store  but they dont sell them like that any more.now they sell the ones like autokrafters sell. i have seen some in the junk yards  though, even on different makes of cars.

I bought a replacement set of the black octagon ones for my 78 Sedan, and they matched the original ones. I got mine from Rock Auto though.

Hey joebob:

The Ford part number for the knob is D5OZ6521850A or D5OZ6521850B.  It was a chrome octagonal head.  This was used on all Fords between 73/78.  It was probably also used on Bobcats.  Green Sales Company presently has 11 NOS of B and 9 NOS of A.  Give them a call and ask for “Doc”.  He is very knowledgeable about Pintos and should be able to help.  Here is the link and the phone.

Doc was on vacation but I bought them anyway. $7 ea plus $10 shipping. All for something no one but me will notice. This is the last part that I needed for complete restoration with the exception of battery, shocks and oil filter. Those things I did not think were worth the effort.

My dad got my Pinto's door open pretty easily sticking a coathanger between the door frame and window on the outside. They're pretty simple to get into even when the windows are all the way up. I went outside and it looked like my car rolled halfway across the parking lot, but I knew it was him. I've seen him unlock my Ranger before.

Were the smooth ones stock on later Pintos? Mine had a pair of those in the ash tray, and some piston shaped ones on the doors.
