Door glass seals
« on: January 13, 2012, 05:07:29 PM »
Its January, time to work on the Pinto! First thing I am doing is replacing the door glass seals. The passenger side is fine, but the drivers side in really bad. I found the beltline seals in AutoKrafters , but they dont list the glass seal, the one around the upper frame, for a 78, only before 76. Does any one know where they could be had? I found some on ebay , they also say before 76.

I got some door glass run weatherstrip yesterday from AutoKrafters.T he only one listed is for 71-76. Mine is a 78. Since no one lists any for 77-80 I thought I would try it to see if it would work.I just put in the drivers side..Works great!. It was almost an exact match as the original even though it was not listed as fitting that year. Now I am just waiting for the beltline strips.

Is that the rubber that goes between the glass and the ouside of the door that the glass rides on as it goes up and down? If it is, mine is shot and needs replacing.

For those years 74-80 nothing on the door's had changed. They need to update their list and they will get more sales...I'm not too sure of the 1970-73 however..

sedandelivery, its the seal inside the upper frame that the glass rides , called a door glass run, in the Auto Krafters catalog. I am still waiting for the beltline seals, they go on top of the door. Here is a pic of the seal and the seal installed in the door.

I bought some of ebay from the seller that always has them. I think they explained the later years had thinner glass. Actually it wasnt a snug fit but they work ot. I added a little extra piece of rubber along the bottom of the window opening on the inside and the window does not rattle at all now :)

So the difference is not in the door but in the glass, so they said. It seems very possible.

I got a sample piece sent to me by seller of the ones on ebay.It would of worked fine, but the ones from Auto Krafters are wider at the base and much thicker, firmer, almost an exact match of the originals. My glass although thinner that earlier models fits nice with no rattles.
