dash speaker size
« on: May 24, 2010, 06:09:21 AM »
I was wondering if anyone knows the stock speaker size that goes in the dash on a 1975 Pinto specifically(without air conditioning if it matters) or any years in general. I saw that Auto Custom Sound makes a very nice dual voice coil speaker that gives you stereo sound where there was only a mono oval speaker originally. It's a nice high wattage upgrade but they don't show a Pinto application in their catalog. >:( I'm betting the Mustang II speaker is the very same one but I need to know for sure.

It's a 5x7. I'm replacing one to.

Thanks! That helps a lot. The plan is for 6x9 boxes in the back hatch area(so I don't have to cut out the virgin panels) and the stereo Auto Custom Sound DVC speaker up front.

O'Reilly's, and maybe autozone to, sell an adapter that will let you install 6x9 speaker on a 5x7 mount!

The Auto Custom Sound DVC speaker #3005DVC is 5x7 and is made for single speaker dashes in the Mustang II. What's nice about it is it gives you stereo sound and pretty high power handling-140 watts(probably peak). There's no DVC 6x9 and I wonder if it would even fit under the dash but good idea since bigger is always better in full range speakers. If I had a car with dual 5x7s in it I would definitely opt for those adapters to go up to 6x9s.

The original speakers in the rear deck of my 78 Sedan were 5x7's, but my dad cut the holes bigger and drilled new holes to mount 6x9's in it back in the 80s. I have a pair of Pioneer 6x9s in the back of it now and they are very nice. I prefer listening to music in the car rather than my home theater system! :)
