dash caps
« on: June 23, 2012, 11:30:55 AM »
can anyone tell me the pro's and con's of dash caps? do they fit and cover the dash pad good enough that you can't tell that there is a cap on it? i mean does it cover it with no edges visably showing? i may want to try one on a extra pad that i have. thanks

Well, Phil AKA Philstoys on here has one on his 76 Bobcat wagon & it looks really good. Can't even tell it's a cap until you look at it.

I mean you can't tell until you feel it. Looks like the regular thing.

Had one on one of my Pinto's for a year or two before I noticed it. Look so much better than an old cracked dash!!!

I have one on my wagon and never knew it was a cap until a few years of looking at it. Mine needs to be reglued but it still looks great

Some people repaint them, others leave them alone. I gotta get one of them for my 1980 since the original dash is shot.

I think they match the original black color and texture just fine, you can decide for yourself when you get one if you want to paint it.

The one I bought for my '72 Pinto matches the factory black interior just fine.  I installed one in an old Ford F-150 about eight years ago and I used SEM spray vinyl dye to match it to the rest of the red interior.  Two years later I did a complete color change and re-sprayed it blue.  I sold the truck a couple months ago but it still looked great then.  Dollar for dollar it probably did more to improve the appearance of that truck than anything else I did.

The only other question I'd ask is how does the $60 cap compare to the $89 cap on Ebay?

I almost bought one for my '73 that popped up on Ebay for $48 bucks & free shipping but I feared it was going to be a "Get what you pay for" issue so I held off. I still wonder if I missed a bargain or not.

The only problem I've had with my cap is it's a little more difficult to get out the speedo assembly. It seems the cap hangs down just enough to stop it from coming out...other then that, it's perfect
