cruise
« on: September 01, 2011, 07:49:14 PM »
The detroit area has the woodward dream cruise which I haven't been to yet but last night I went to a cruise in st. clair shores MI and had an absolute blast! Can't believe the love for the pinto!! I swear my car was the hit of the show. There were thousands of people and I would say at least 800 cars or more and the entire time all I got were thumbs up and yells for the pinto! Did some good burnouts and got a few standing ovations! :hypno: On the way home on the express way I had a guy in a new bmw that even gave me a thumbs up! Too funny! Glad to see so much love for the pinto. Of course around here there isn't any left because they rotted out years ago so it's really rare to see one. Just thought I would share my fun!

What a great story! The funny thing is, not all that long ago these great little cars were scoffed at.  I'm so glad you got to experience Pinto Love.  :)
One can never have too many Pintos!

I am in the Detroit area also.

I drive my car right through downtown Detroit every work day going from Downriver to north of Mount Clemens.
So my beater Pinto 1600 does duty on I-75 and I-94 even in winter.

I get the thumbs up and stares everyday even though it is "cosmetically challenged".

Are you going to the Ohio meet on Sunday the 11th of September?

BTW 289Pinto - Do you have any pictures of your car?   The avatar picture of the wagon looks great!

I love wagons!  (Avants)  I have two of them.  (not Pinto's though)

When my beater Pinto gets too rusty (since I winter drive it in Michigan) I will be looking for a Pinto wagon to replace it.  I figure my car is good for two more years.  The drivetrain will still be strong, but one day I will go out to leave for work and all I will see is a pile of rust on the driveway.

Here is a winter picture of the Pinto.

Just did a cruise night in Golden CO home of Coors Beer. The largest gathering I have ever seen. Must have been 1500 cars along the 3 1/2 mile stretch of road. They do this every month in the summer. Hooting and hollering and thumbs up the whole distance. I could just make out the back end of a blue car 100 yards ahead of me. Could have been a pinto. Could not get closer. I would have loved to get photos of my bob and his pinto together.

Are there still alot of pintos in CO? I went to some junk yards in colorado springs about 15 years ago and couldn't believe the ones  I saw in the yards! They were in perfect shape! No salt used out there that I know of so they dont rot like they do in MI!

I see one pinto per year on the street. The ones I see are in terrible shape. There is still a pinto grave yard in Colorado Springs
