Title: Cruise Control
Post by: flash041 on March 20, 2016, 10:03:46 PM
Any one installed an aftermarket cruise control or adapted cruise control form another ford product that came with one from the factory? I will be driving my Pinto to Alaska next summer and it would be nice to have on an 8,000 plus mile road trip!

I used a Rostra unit in my truck had it for 8yrs until I sold it, worked flawlessly and was adjustable, worked nicer than any factory cruise that I ever drove, IMWO..

I got one on my 76 pinto , I mounted mine under the dash and ran the cable out through the hole where that clutch cable would have gone , the reason is I have the V6 with A/C , power steering along with power brakes and headers , hardly any room but it keeps the heat off the unit so it should last a long time , I sure like it for the long trips , I got the one that goes one the turn signal handle so it looks factory , got it from Dakota Digital,

When I swapped to the Turbo 2.3 from the Turbo Coupe I adapted in the whole deal. Unfortunately I believe I was told that the speed sensor for the electronic speedometer is needed. I guess I can run a rally style dual drive, but I never drive the car far enough to justify the time involved to make it all work.  anyway, something to consider if you are thinking about adapting from a more modern car.  Every now and then I come across an un-opened, old school cruise control unit at thrift stores and yard sales. I usually get them for about $5-$10.

When I broke my right ankle, I went old school with a broom handle cut down to highway speed.  Very cheap and effective for 8 weeks in a cast.
