Title: CA Craigslisting for 14 Pinto's
Post by: oldkayaker on February 04, 2016, 04:53:11 PM
I hope this is the correct forum for this.  A person over on TurboFord.org (boboli) spotted this and it may be of interest here.  The ad is a little over a week old, so it may not be up to date.

A couple of strange things. He calls them "Chevy Pinto's".  He says he has titles for "most" but doesn't say exactly which ones.  Even with titles if they aren't on Non-Op status at the DMV you are looking at at least $600 in back fees at the (California) DMV.  In Calif. if you don't deliberately Non-Op the car they charge you anyway for at least 3 years - plus penalties even if the car sat in your driveway and never touched the street. If you buy them and take them out of state this is not a problem.  He lists in the Santa Maria Craigslist yet the city listing in the subject is Fillmore, which is at least 100 miles between each other. The topography of both areas is similar so you can't tell by the pictures. I did a search on the phone number, but it is mobile (805) 620-2586. and the 805b area code covers both named areas.

So, while it is exciting to see such a volume of Pinto's when you trickle through all the aspects of partial cars, title issues, potential back fees and the reason the cars are sitting in the first place there might only be a nugget or two in the pan.  That said, I do find the early, light blue, trunk model to to at least draw some interest on my behalf.

Ironic, I just found this guy with 8 Vega's for sale. Suddenly it's the 1970's all over again! http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/cto/5386542779.html

The blue early one caught my eye as well. There appears to be an early wagon there too.

My reply on turboford pointed out that all the others appear to be post-'75, which means they still have to get smog checks.

Back registration isn't really a problem if they've been forgotten for 10 years or more.

This Cruising Wagon in Riverside, Ca. has been up for a while, and might be gone. I've seen some posts searching for this model.

That looks like a pretty good deal there, especially if there's no rust..
