Probably the best deal I ever got was when I bought my orange 1974 Pinto Runabout brand new in January of 1974 for $2900.  Conversely, the orange 1974 Pinto Runabout that I purchased in May of 2016 is currently at about the $12000 point, with a few things still to be done.  It's essentially identical to the first one I had and I am putting it back as near to stock as possible.  Although in the long run it may have cost more, I wish now had just kept the first one.  So much for teenage decision making abilities!  lol
