At $200 you can have one of mine shipped to you? It should be less than that!

But then I'd have to rebuild it.. :D Gonna pass on it anyways It's almost 200mi away so the cost of the trip blows it away, think I'll just rebuild the original one that's in it..

Art, if you want it but won't be coming over here for a while I could store it for you. Unfortunately it would not be in an air conditioned space.
Just another option to consider.

Why do you have to rebuild it? It worked fine in my Pinto! The one out of the 79.

Did you rebuild it???, it's just a core and I don't feel like putting it in and turn around and pull it back out, this working on the ground crap is getting old, lol.. :D

You can pickup a 9,000 Tuxedo lift for only like 1500 or an 11,000 pound for around 2k.

This was driving great while it was in the 79 Pinto. I went a different way and didn't need it...

Had to yank the tranny in the Falcon yesterday wife said it was acting up, after taking it apart I can see why looks like some backyard professional did a cheapo rebuild on it. >:( >:(

Thanks, but this one is a C-4 and I'm gonna rebuild it myself, that way I know it'll be done "right" and will last a long time, won't have to worry about it when the wife is driving it.

The C-4 transmission is good when built and set up right , over the years and a few I had in trucks I found that a deeper pan and a good oil cooler made these live longer , heat kills them very fast , plus the fact that once I pull one I never want.to see it again , 😜

Well, would be cheaper than $200 and I have 2 I don't need. I guess I can use them for spares since I am rebuilding the 2.0 :)

Always good to have spares never know when you'll need one.... Ordered the stuff for mine yesterday, less than $150 shipped..

Yep, that and enlarging the passages and a few oil feed mods, they sure are simple though..

I'm gonna have 3 spares soon LOL I'm using a different transmission in these. The A4LD seems to be a better transmission :)

I would love to have an overdrive but none bolts up to a 200 IL6.. :(
Title: Re: Art, still looking for a C3 trans?
Post by: pinto_one on August 21, 2015, 09:58:11 AM
yes that is a hard one to find a different trans for the 200 or 170 , if your car has the C-4 the place called gear venders makes a overdrive that bolts to the back of the C-4 , its pricey , if you know a good machinist you and find a 77 to 82 Volvo with four speed with overdrive (its the same unit gear venders use) and just use the unit on the back of it, find it at a you pull it and adapt it your self,  if you do I would buy the shorty shaft and adaptor kit from them , check it out , thats how ideas are born ,

Yeah, I had a Gear Vendor in my dually the 6 speeds sure are nice but like you say they are pricey, I did the upgrade thing when I got mine and it was half price and I thought it was still pricey, lol, was still worth it though did save a lot on mileage and wear and tear. I probably could make an adapter for the A4LD but I just don't have the time for it.. :(

Not certain what I'm doing with the 2.0 yet, but I have a great machine shop locally for this. But going to overdrive seems the way to go for me :)
Title: Re: Art, still looking for a C3 trans?

All these cars were made when speed limit was 55mph so the tire and gear combos were set for that, so today if you're gonna do any traveling an overdrive is pretty much mandatory unless you want rpm to the moon all the time... ::)
Title: Re: Art, still looking for a C3 trans?
Post by: pinto_one on August 22, 2015, 03:08:30 PM
That is one of the reasons I put the A4LD behind my 2.8 , it was spooled up at 70 mph , now the rpm is around 2300 at that speed in OD , plus with the org C-3 it turned passed 3 grand when I was towing my camper , had to add a extra trans cooler because of the heat the Tourqe converter made from the slippage , but you can not tow in overdrive with this transmission, but in Drive you can manually lock up the converter for no slippage,  turns around 2900 rpm towing with no heat being made by the Tourqe converter ,when I'm not towing I let the computer handle it,😀

Lock up converter is a great thing IMO, it's like another gear and drops the heat build up big time...
Title: Re: Art, still looking for a C3 trans?
Post by: pinto_one on August 22, 2015, 10:06:40 PM
It sure does 74 pinto wagon , at first i thought of just swapping the lockup converter to the C-3 , first you had to use the A4LD belhousing because the the converter is an inch longer , and yes it will bolt up to the C-3 but running the pressure line for the lockup could have been done only i said just use the whole thing , glad i did , i know the 200 is the same as the 170 and 144 , you might have to use the A4LD off of a 2.3 , starter on right , 2.8 2.9 and the 4.0 has the starter on the left , or you can fine a 250 out of a 77 up granda , looks just like the 200 but a 5.0 bolt pattern,

Hmmm, forgot all about the Granada 250, everything should be the same and bolt right in that would be the way to go, thanks for that tip..

Was average, it was in good shape didn't need any hard parts. Last month I did a TH350 for the Nova and it was only $110. :)

I was too until I took one apart, once you take one apart you'll see how simple they are, first time just take lots of pics as you go, and there's tons of breakdown diagrams out there.. :D

too much work to put a c-3 in place of a c-4. if anyone wants to come get them, they're free. I'm gonna clean garage this winter.
