Hood blanket?
« on: May 01, 2012, 12:29:49 PM »
All, did any Pintos come with an underhood "blanket" from the factory, or were they just all painted metal? I don't recall from the past, and would think most have deteriorated over the years. I don't see evidence of attachment on most hoods. Anyone know for sure?
And along those lines, if not, has anyone ADDED one of these? If you have, what material(s) are you using for it? Thanks.
Chris

Iv'e got a 74 that has one on it. It has a bracket on it
that helps holds it in place. I'll take a pic of it after I get
done mowing the lawn and shoot it to you. I put a new one
on my Mustang II. I think you might be able to get one of
those and cut it down.

MY '72 Pinto has one and so does the replacement hood I bought for it, which came off a '71.

I had one made from a vender on ebay. I made a paper pattern of my old one from the bobcat and they sent it back just $25   4 years ago. Wish I kept the name of the vender.

my '71 never had one. several buddies at that time also had '71's without the blanket.  girlfriend at that time had a '72  without it. my mom & my brother each had a '73 with out the blanket.

can't speak fo any other instances but i don't think that the earlier models were equipped with them

I am the original owner of a V-6 1977 crusing wagon. It never had a hood blanket.

My 74 with a blanket had a\c. Maybe that is a factor.
I'm sending it (blanket) and retaining brackets to popbumper
as soon as I can find my shrink wrap.

I think the AC might be the correct answer........ ........maybe.   I had a '74 wagon, no AC, no hood blanket. Also a '76 sedan with dealer installed AC and a hood blanket. I now have a "80 wagon with factory AC and a hood blanket.  I have seen many pintos in wrecking yards without hood blankets or AC, but you cant rely on that too well. The ones I found with AC did not have front ends at all.

i wonder if the 'blanket' may have been a geographically regional thing?

Interesting replies, thanks all. With Blink77's help, I will be adding one to my '76 wagon which has A/C.

well if it is the a/c thing both of mine are factory a/c cars and where sold out of the same district as well, so a geographically regional thing would make sense too!!!

its a ford thing! look at the 1990's f150 same 302 motor but had 3 different belts depending on pulley design, what a pain!!!
