Hi folks!  What I specifically want to know is whether the original gas caps changed in 1975 when the cars went to Unleaded Fuel.  Will a 1975 or newer gas cap fit on an earlier model or is there some difference?
Thanks!
Dwayne :)

Cap off my 80 fits my 72 no problem. Looks the same on the underside.

Thanks for your reply!  Does it fit with the handle in the horizontal position?  Just for the record, I'm referring to the OEM painted gas caps.

I tried it on the 72 that had been fitted with the recall parts and the handle was horizontal and the fit was identical to the 80. I also have a 72 that has its original filler neck. when I get a chance I'll try that one. Its been in my family since 73, but the original cap got lost. I do remember the chrome replacement cap on that one tightened at about 30 deg off horizontal.

Leave it to my dear friend Becky to find out exactly what I needed to know and to provide irrefutable proof of what she's telling me!  Many thanks!
