Another oddball option on my '80 ?
« on: July 24, 2012, 08:34:37 PM »
As I try to figure out what I have I keep running into more & more questions. All '79 & '80 Cruising Wagons & Rallye Pintos have the '77-'78 dash with the round tach & speedo & the 3 gauge panel with fuel level, temp. & oil pressure.

My '80 has the square dash with fuel level & speedo & the 3 gauge panel with oil pressure, amps & water temp. gauges.

I'm sure this is all just part of the Special Order 42 pkg., but what's with the amp gauge? Was this oddball gauge pack an option on other '80 Pintos? Did Ford maybe run out of the round gauges & dash & do this on the last cars they built before ending the Pinto?

BTW, I also have the mint black sport steering wheel tucked away in my garage so ignore the temporary chrome one.

It's possible someone put in the 3 piece gauges above the radio after the fact to go with an original look to the car. Not too sure if Ford had that set up like that in any of the 79-80 Pintos with the square dash but anything is possible.

That means there was an optional gauge pkg. available. I've never seen the gauge pack on Ebay with the amp gauge.

All of the cars and parts I have had all have amp, temp, and fuel as the three gauges.  I have never seen anything different other than the color of the face and needles.

Mine has amp, temp & oil pressure. It doesn't have the fuel gauge in it.

My bad for not knowing the Cruising Wagons had amp, temp & fuel. I assumed they had oil pressure instead of amps. I just know that every one I've seen on Ebay had a fuel guage in it & mine doesn't. I need to snap a few pics of it.

Interesting... .. Please post a close up picture of your gauges when you have a chance.

My 79 has a tach in the round dash and the gauges where the heater controls are on other Pintos. It has a white "Starsky and Hutch" stripe on a sunshine yellow exterior. It also has a Rallye steering wheel with the deluxe interior. I think you could order just about anything those last two years.
