AM Pinto radio
« on: December 24, 2012, 09:08:10 PM »
Hello and Merry Christmas to all!!
Found a original ford am radio to put back in my 72 pinto wagon. I'm moving my ignition panel and gauges down under the dash so the radio opening is free. Anyone know which wires are hot and ground and speakers? The radio has the original 2 prong plug in wires. Kinda curious if the radio works or not (only cost $10 and won't here it over the engine noise anyway HA HA) But it will fill the holes anyway.
 Thank's  Moonshine

The '72 wiring diagram is lacking in detail for the radio.  It looks like the black wire is for positive 12V.  The negative 12V ground connection should be through the case (no wire).  The diagram does not give wire colors for the two speaker wires but they should be the same size and may be paired together.  The illumination wire is not spelled out either, but probably is smaller than the black positive 12V  wire.

You should have 1 single wire- that is your 12V, kayaker is correct- Case is GND. The duplex wire that has the connector on it is for the speaker- mono and mounts right under the dash with 2 nuts from the dash itself. You can order new a speaker (Stereo or Mono) from Gary @ www.garytayman.net or ask Fred Morgan if he has a Mono in decent condition. You will need a mount bracket, also from Fred.

Hope this helps,

light blue/red stripe is illumination wire. the other wire in that plug is switched 12 v. the other plug is for the speaker.
If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?

Thank's guy's,
It's been a long time since I hooked up a ford radio. I have the antenna, So all I need is a speaker. It would be cool if the radio worked, But the only time I could here it would be without the car running HA HA! thank's again!!!!
