In Nine months my wife and I will be heading out in the Cruising Wagon on an epic Pinto road trip from Wisconsin to Prudhoe Bay Alaska! We will be going through North Dakota , Montana, then north to Dawson Creek B C. Then on the Alcan through British Columbia and the Yukon to Alaska.Return tip will be through Juneau , Prince Rupert BC, Spokane WA . If there are any members in Alaska or along that route let em know. We would love to meet you!
-
That's quite a trip, should be fun..
-
Been in Alaska 4 times ! Love it ! Tried to move there back in the 80s !
-
Way too cold up there, even in the summer. :D
-
Summer looks like the best time, that's why we are going then. This summer they had some pretty warm weather. One day in Prudoe Bay it was 86 !
-
The clock is ticking down, only 11 weeks from this coming Friday! Been doing a lot of prep on the car. Repair gas tank, new tires, new springs, new shocks, new rag joint, new steering rack,Dynamat and insulate the floor, add cruise control , etc! aAgain if any one is on our route let me know, id like to meet you.
-
I rode to Prudhoe Bay on my BMW from Saskatchewan. It was a fantastic trip. I hear most of the road is paved now. We went in late June as the ice is mostly breaking up on the lakes.
The north side of Atigun pass is like another world.
-
Tell us about the cruse control please.
-
One week to go !!!! Dick the cruise control I put in is a Dakota Digital unit. It works great! I will post a separate post on it when I get back from the trip. I will be changing oil and packing the car this weekend.
-
You must feel like a kid counting down the days until Christmas or the last day of school! Please post updates as you travel to Alaska. Have a safe trip and lots of fun!
-
Great , make sure you check you spare to make sure it has air , bad when you change a tire and the spare tire is flatter than the one on the car , ask me how i know :o
-
Hope you have a wonderful trip!!!
Dwayne :)

If you wish to see them bigger, click the white box so they are bigger.
Then right click and "save as" to your desk top or a picture file.
You will then be able to open them & see full sized.
-
When do you think you'll be back into Washington?
-
After about 10,500 miles we have made it back home! the only repair required, replace a headlight! We made it up the Dalton Highway to the Arctic Ocean in Prudhoe Bay, 250 miles north of the Arctic Circle. Thes fall/winter I will put together Utube videos of our adventure. The most northern Pinto in the World!!
-
Glad to hear that you made it safely home from your Alaskan Adventure! Out of curiosity, did you have any trouble finding a replacement headlight? I don't know if Auto Zones are as plentiful in Alaska as they seem to be in the lower 48!
-
We were in Juneau when I replaced it. There was an O'Reilly there.
-
What an adventure! Glad to know the Pinto performed well and that you made it safely home!
Dwayne :)
-
Did you meet any Pinto gear heads on your trip? You'll remember the trip the rest of your life. Well done!
-
No other Pinto People, but lots of car people. We were a rolling one car, car show! We did get invited by the Antique Mushers to take part in the Anchorage 4th of July Parade. After the parade we also got invited to their club picnic . We also attended the Wasilla Centennial Car Show. Also a community Car Show in Skagway !
-
Sounds like a lot of fun!
Dwayne :)
-
Good to see (on facebook) you made it home safe and sound
what an adventure, thanks for sharing :)
-
That awesome ! A Pinto hero for sure :-)
-
While we were on the Arctic Ocean Shuttle in Deadhorse we met a reporter that was doing an article on the Pipe line and the Dalton Highway. Here is the article that included my Pinto and I .

Way cool!!!
Dwayne :)
-
It's... Wait for it! Legendary! ;D
-
Thanks for the designation! I love that pic! Although several years away I am already planning my next drive to Alaska with the Pinto!
-
Did you have to work on the Pinto during the trip? How much was gas up north? Any part of the trip that did not go well?
-
The luggage rack survived despite having a snowmobile sized cargo carrier on top! Built "Ford Tough!"
-
Dick, the only repair needed was replacing a burned out headlight on the way home in Juneau. Also had an oil change at a Jiffy Lube in Fairbanks. Gas in Alaska was between 2.80 and 3.15 most places. On the Dalton it was 5.50 and 4.77. In Canada between 4 and 5, over 8 in one place! Other than a few rainy days altering our plans, the trip went Extremely well and EXCEEDED our expectations! Every day we were amazed by the beauty. And having the car perform flawlessly , I did not give it a second thought, even travelling through the very remote areas of our trip.

I made the road trip to Fairbanks in 1965. The Alcan was gravel! About 1000 miles of it! I went to school at the University of Alaska. In 2010 we flew for our 40th anniversary. I'd love to do the road trip again but I'm pushing 78.
