New parts ordered
« on: September 04, 2011, 07:59:57 AM »
Short water pump. Will give me 1.5" of extra space. Providing it works on a BOSS 302 engine !

Brackets.

Pulleys.

Alternator fan.

The picture of the required timing cover is missing. Found a place in Edmonton that has it in stock & will be sent to me on Tuesday.

Let me know how that alt bracket works out. I have to do that on my Squire and was wondering how high up the alt mounts with a bracket like that. The short water pump would be nice on mine but I'm using a reverse rotation with power pulleys. I'm going to wind up with the radiator in front of the support.

The original BOSS 302 & the 302w that is in it right now both sit too close to the rad. Maybe 1/2" or closer. Rad is in front of the rad support.
This will allow the fan the needed clearance from the rad & rad support.
Rad will still need to be in front.
At least in my car. Might have to do with how my engine is mounted.

Parts will not be "tested" till this winter. New BOSS 302 is still sitting in Chicago.

New parts will allow a bigger fan and more clearance.

Thought about other options & went with a factory BOSS fan. Maybe. I'll see if there is enough room......I'll be posting pictures when done.

If I have time etc. I'll put the parts in place before I pull the 302w & take pictures.
It may help others in the same place....

Does that water pump require a backing plate?

I'm not sure if it will require a backing plate ?

New link shows the timing chain cover:  http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=26

Looks like maybe just a gasket ?

Sort of off topic.....

Been thinking of making a "Pinto Kit".
The 302w & tran will be pulled soon. Going to tear down & get specs from the pistons & cam. Maybe put a good set of heads on it.
I have a line on two 9" diffs.
So , I'd be able to put a full package together from front to back.

First priority is to get mine back running though....
Anyone interested ? Shoot me a PM asking for more details.

pintoman1972 - water pump has a back plate.

Only part not here yet is the alt fan. (could be sitting at the Post Office right now)

Timing chain cover, short water pump, brackets & pullys. (some bolts not in picture)

That sure looks pretty. I never knew there was a short pump setup.

I picked up the long water pump stuff off the clearance table at Summit over the last 2 years. Aluminum pump(25), billet alt. bracket(40), chrome alt.(25) & March v-belt pulley set(100)
'73 Sedan (I'll get to it)
'76 Wagon driver
'80 hatch(Restoring to be my son's 1st car)~Callisto
'71 half hatch (bucket list Pinto)~Ghost
'72 sedan 5.0/T5~Lemon Squeeze
