Title: 72 Pinto rear end

I have a 1972 Pinto Hatch with a 6 3/4 rear end. I have a 3.55 to 1 ratio which is to low for my application.  Looking for a rear end  with a ratio below 3 to 1.  I found a junkyard that has a 1978 ring and pinion of 2.73 to 1... will that fit in my 72?  If not... anybody out there have a ring and pinion that will work?   Cheers!
