Pinto Tattoo
« on: December 15, 2011, 09:45:31 AM »
Has anybody out there gotten a tattoo with a Pinto theme to it?

I have been thinking about getting one for a while. My dad gave me his old ESS, and I love the thing to death. The car will never be sold as long as I live.

Was thinking about getting the kicking horse, with the letters "ESS" next to it, in the correct font of course. This way its not too obvious that its pinto related, but anybody who knows the kicking horse emblem will recognize the connection.

What do you guys think? Anybody else out there with a Pinto tattoo?

I've thought about some Ed Roth stuff myself. I was thinking the Rat Fink stuck up out of a killer Pinto. This isn't Ed Roth but still cool.    http://www.fordpinto.com/off-topic-general/ed-roth/msg108065/#msg108065

I think for my 50th birthday in July, I would like to get a tattoo of the Pinto kicking horse emblem.  Problem is...I don't know where to put it.

I was going to put mine on my upper right arm IF I did it. No surgery scars on that arm...yet lol.

I own bobcat not a pinto so I wont get the kicking horse plus i got a feeling most people would be like "So you like mustangs?".

I do plan on getting a custom drawing of my 2.3turbo bobcat tattooed on my back at some point and since I'm like a billboard that will prolly be 20  hours of work! LOL

Now that you say it, yeah, that would be a problem. Allot of "car guys" out there who don't know the difference between the running horse of the Mustang, and the kicking horse of the Pinto. I guess that's one was to figure out who is worth having a conversation with LOL.

And as for placement, no, I wouldn't get it on my butt lol. Was thinking on my left inner fore-arm. I have a guardian angel on my right inner fore-arm, that I got for my brother. Kinda wanted to get something on the other-side to balance it out if you know what I mean.

Couple things to keep in mind here,  I'm a Pinto guy, and I have no idea what ESS is?
the other thing: in 20 years are still going to be "into" Pintos?
Wanna see my 22 year old tat.  it does not look the same as it did when I got it, and Guns and Rose's isn't a big hit anymore....  Just sayin.......

ESS....I remember the late 70s Granada had them initials on its fender. Can't remember what they stood for though. But then again, I suffer with CRS. ;D

As for having a tat of a Pinto....No. I don't. I have a U.S.A.F. with eagle and banner tat from when I was in the Air Force back in the 1970s and two other tats, but no Pinto tat. But now you got me thinking.  ;)

I do believe that it stands for European Sport Sedan. I may be wrong. I have been before.

I do believe that it stands for European Sport Sedan. I may be wrong. I have been before.

You sir, are correct. It was a model offered in 79 & 80 only. It came with the black accents around the side windows, blacked out grill & headlight buckets, windshield trim, black stickers on the all glass back hinges, and I think a few other things. It also had round gauges in it, rather then the square gauges like regular pintos, and I think it also came with the 3 gauges in the dash above the radio.

It was made to look similar to the European cars at the time, and try to steal a little bit of sales from them.

Not sure how many were made, can't find any numbers on them. I do know they aren't too common though. Not only were sales lowest in 79 & 80 for the pinto, but being that it was a "special" model only adds to the rarity of the car.

Me personally, it is important to me, not cause its rare or cause Pintos are a "fad" right now, it's because of the fact that it has been in my family since late 1980, and the fact that it was a summer father-son project. I learned to drive stick on the car as well. Had to learn in 2 weeks so that I could drive it to New York for a car show (roughly a 3 1/2 hour ride, one way). I love the car more than anything else, and I will have the car as long as I am alive.
