1980 Ford Pinto for auction 12-27-11
« on: December 26, 2011, 09:33:55 AM »
Hey Folks,

There is a red 1980 Pinto sedan going up for auction tomorrow in Dayton, Ohio. Based on photos from the website www.bobhogstro m.com it is a clean little car. No apparent rust, a four cylinder four speed manual with only 55,620 miles. The interior looked good (black vinyl if I remember correctly) and I don't believe it has a/c, but the photos didn't give a clear look at the console to determine whether or not it was so equipped. I am planning on going to the auction myself to take photos, and will try to get in today to post some later on. The auction is being held indoors, and is just off of I-70 and State Route 48, very easy to get to. I'm trying to add the link here but it isn't working for me yet. There is a Torino and an F-150 going as well, with the F-150 having a reserve. Just got off the phone with the auctioneer and the car will be arriving in about an hour, so I'm going down to take photos and I'll be back later today.

This is the link to the auction site, through auctionzip.com

My other link turned out to work as well, so life is good.

I went back to look at the photos on the website to see what else was there. This guy had a frickin' cannon, and it's going up for auction, electric guitars, woodworking tools, a boat motor, guns; I don't know who he was, but I kinda like his style!

Just got back home a bit ago. The Pinto is in spectacular condition, no rust at all, anywhere. Though the car was locked and the keys weren't available I got a pretty good look at it. I will try and post the pictures here in a while. The car has a dealer sticker on the rear bumper from Pensacola, Florida, and has all four trim rings and red reflectors in the center of the wheels. It looks like about the sweetest little Pinto I've seen at an auction. My wife will kill me sure as all get out, but heaven help me I'm thinking maybe...

The Torino is just about insane, there are only 6,000 or so miles on it, a three speed on the column shifter, plastic covers still on the backseat. From what the auctioneer said, the car was stored in a garage on blocks, and it shows. I'm going to this auction either way, but if anyone is going to be in the area, let me know.

The car is actually the last of the Fairlane 500's,  I beleive. A rare car today! The Pinto is in awesome condition, I wish I was closer. I am curious what the final prices end up to be.

Flyer Pinto, keep us updated!
Both cars look excellent.  You may be bidding against some "flippers" that would have these cars on ebay next week.

I am near Detroit and could go.  However, I will not go because I would be weak and bid on the Pinto.   Wifey would be a little upset since her Pinto isn't finished!

The Pinto sold for $3,000!!! The interior was essentially perfect, with an aftermarket stereo in the dash but otherwise unmolested, and it ran like a top. I contacted the buyer and will be going out to do a spread on the car to put in the upcoming issue, which should be out in less than a month. The Torino sold for $6,800, and the F-150 went for $8,000 or so. It was a big crowd, and it was raining, and the cars were outside. Only two people were serious about the Pinto, the auctioneer asked for $5,000 to start and got an offer of $500. It escalated to $3,000 before one of the two backed out. I was interested myself, though my wife told me I really wasn't...;-). I met three other Pinto fans and made some contacts for other Pinto goodies. Also, I bought a case of canned C-rations to donate to the museum here in town, along with some old War Department Technical Manuals. I would have loved to have had the Pinto, and on the way home was passed by an early 70's model green hatchback going the other way on Route 48. Wonder what the odds were of that happening?
