2.0 EAO timing belt tensioner
« on: August 17, 2017, 02:17:16 PM »
If anyone is needing a Timing Belt Tensioner for the EAO 2.0 (since they're almost extinct and worth their weight in gold), I found some more at Carid. They're Melling BT10 (but nos Ford part inside).....and I don't know how many they have left.........I bought 3 :). You can find them at Pegisus in Florida for around $200 or in England at Burton......or you can try to find a bearing that will fit.

I've had 16 Pintos since 1972, not one of them needed a new belt tensioner! I know its nice to have too many Pinto parts. I used to have many, but sold them all to gearheads on here. Since I installed my Ranger cam and rocker arms I don't know of a single part that could fail on a regular street driven Pinto. There is a world of difference between a 8000 rpm racer and a 3000 rpm street Pinto.
Its better to be a has-been, than a never was.

Hi..

Im not sure which engine you are referring to as the EAO.

Is it the early 2.0 "metric" one used from 71 to 73  or the later one based on the 2.3?

If it is the early 71-73 2.0 i just found a belt tensioner at Autozone for like $25.

You have to special order it but I got mine in 2 days.

Autozone still has a lot of parts for the early 2.0

Hope this helps

And..., all the tensioner does is ride on the outside of the belt. it is not indexed. So, with little adaptation I'm sure there are a host of other tensioners that can be used.  Not sure why someone would be charging $200???

For clarification: The EOA engine is the early Pinto (71-74) 2.0. It is NOT the 2.0 found in the later Ford Rangers. That 2.0 was based on the Lima engine (2.3) used in the '74-80 Pinto's - and later Mustangs, Capri's, T-Birds, Cougars. Some being Turbocharged.

Also, when Dick refers to using the Ranger roller cam that would be in the 2.3 Lima engine. That cam does not fit the EAO 2.0 engine. There is a possibility that could have been misinterpreted .
