Wiring Questions
« on: November 19, 2012, 06:40:44 AM »
I am trying to salvage a 1978 Cruise wagon. I have most things back together. Behind the fuse block there are two rectangle connectors that are just hanging. One connector is black with 4 slots and has a red with a white tracer at one end and (2) black with a white tracer wires at the other end. What is it for and where would it go? The other connector is red with 4 slots, 4 wires. (1) Red with green dots, (2) green with yellow tracer, (3) black, (4) brown with green dots. I thing it is for the tachometer. Where does it plug into? I have a 1978 wiring diagram but it does not match what I have in the car. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Hey there, I'm gonna try to help you out. My source is the Haynes Pinto/Bobcat 75-80 manual page 273. The wires at the tachometer are as follows:

Dark green with yellow dots leads to coil and splits also to engine air fuel ratio control
Black is ground
Grey with black dots to ignition switch
Red with light green stripe leads to junction then thru resistor (1.05-1.115 amps) to coil positive.

Without much more info, I'm inclined to think that the other connector may be for a missing seat belt/key in buzzer. There is no slot in the fuse box for the buzzer it just dangles by the connector and they were often removed as the buzz was annoying, such as listening to the radio with the door open and the car off. If you can get back to me with more info I will try my best to help. Wishing you luck!
