« on: May 19, 2014, 12:08:01 AM »
wondering if anyone has a wiring pinout or diagram for a 79 Pinto for the cluster.
The cluster for the most part doesnt work, fuel guage, signals, warning lights all dead. Thanks

No one has a pin out or diagram?
Cluster issues, No fuel guage, no signals and no warning lamps. Was very bright out couldnt see if dash lights were working or not.
Seems like there is 3 powers and 1 ground present, but I have no idea if this is all, or correct.

I have a 79 EVTM but it does not have the detail on individual connectors.  For that detail you need the Ford large fold out wiring diagrams.  There are several on eBay at the moment.  In eBay motors search on: 1979 Ford Pinto (wiring)

If everything is dead check the fuse or the lands on the circuit board.  I could not find individual pinouts in my books.

Ignition???  My 79 has a sticky key ignition,, it doesnt return completely from START position in the wintertime. If i dont back it to the RUN position, NO GUAGES, NO RADIO, NO SIGNALS, ETC.....

I thought that too, but radio does work, signals do work on the exterior, just not on the cluster.

There is a square box attatched to the cluster, a regulator I think which might be bad, I would try a new cluster. I have extras if you live close to NE Pa.

It's a voltage regulator for the gauges, the indicator lights are straight 12 volt, the gauges thinking 5 volt. If the copper on the contact points for light sockets is dull looking, take a rough pencil eraser and erase the contact area to a bright copper color, that cleans it up to carry power, often lights will then work. Do the same to the contacts on the bulb socket. They oxidize and then quit working and common. You can slightly bend the socket contacts out further to make firmer contact too.

Is there a way to test the IVR with a DVOM ? also there is an approx. 2 inch tube at the top, couldn't figure what that is for ?
Car show to take the King Cobra to this weekend, so may not get back to working on the bobcat till sunday or later.

I would assume put 12V on the regulator input side and provide any ground needed there and then read the regulator output........ .............. ...output side would be the gauge inputs.

There may be a resistor in there too for the alternator light thinking 500 ohm? It's the balance point for the alt input vs. 12V battery power, when they balance close to equal the alt light goes out.
