Max Tire Size
« on: April 26, 2014, 10:12:12 PM »
Hey all,
My question is whats the max size tire you can put under a pinto with any suspension or drivetrain mods. So your run of the mill 74-80 runabout or hatchback, 2.3L. I want to restore my 80 and want to know how big you can go without scrapping any of the original drivetrain setup.

I plan on putting non-ford rims on the car. I have heard lots of different numbers being thrown around, but i want to just set in stone how big the tires can be without rubbing issues in the front, and what will fit under the wells in the back. Once I know a tire size, then i can decide how big the wheels should be. I'm a big fan of pintos with lots of tire under them, but I'm not ready to change up all my drivetrain quite yet.

im running 225-55 or 50 r15, rear should be able to go bigger, the width depends if you can hit that offset perfect

I also have been wanting to find out what to ask the folks at the tire store about rims. I wanting to go up to 14 or 15 inch rims. Mine is a 1977 wagon 2.3 . How do I make this happen without changing everything. Is this possible?

Most wheels that fit a Ford Fox Body with four lugs should fit fine. If they are stock width.5.5 to about 9 or so ( making a Wild Arse Guess)  However some after market wheels are for front wheel drive only so watch out for that. It's not just the wheel width but the back spacing as well .
