Is it just me or are pintos extremely hard to find now? I remember a few years back looking around for them and I'd find plenty in my local area. Now that I'm getting around to wanting to buy one they have disappeared? I'm curious as to know where you guys have had the best luck finding them.

A lot of it depends on your location. I live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia where they are nearly non-existent. I purchased both of mine through eBay - one was in Maryland, the other in North Carolina. A lot of other folks have had success with Craigslist. We have a Classifieds section here which sometimes yields a nice Pinto as well. Others are actually barn finds or the equivalent. And then there are businesses like The Pinto Barn in California that restore and sell them. What you are looking for and what you're willing/able to spend plays a role too. Good luck!

In the past year or so they seem to have dried up. I'd like an early model run-a-bout, but I don't see them any more. So it seems the land of milk and honey here dried up also.

The dirt trackers used them all up running mini-stock.

There are a few listed on the Phoenix craigslist and a couple in surrounding areas.
It really depends on where you are located and how far you are willing to go.
Like mentioned above, this site is a good source, you can place a wanted ad and also see what is listed for sale here.
Are you looking for a project, driver, fully restored? Things to think about. :-)

Same here, the dirt track guys just ate most all of the good ones down here also, I have a few parts cars that I had to put in the back out of sight because they would knock at my door ask if I want to haul them away to make a dirt car out of it, and most still think they are still cheep, a few times I had a few that would ask if I would take 3 or 4 for my redone pinto and I say it would be alittle more than 4 thousand , they would reply back that I was crazy and would never pay that much, my reply is sorry but its not the 70s any more , and 500 buck 66 mustangs are gone too,

I kind of asked that same question back in 2007 when I went looking for mine. And, don't believe that all those California cars are available. Craigslist seems to never have cars removed after the sale. While we have more than other places they are few and far between.
I go to the self service yards monthly and the Pinto's are getting fewer and fewer there. Maybe one every two to three visits, - and this is the L.A. area. I'll add that shortly after 2007 the Turbo Coupes and Murkurs vanished too. Then again the newest of those cars are inching towards 30 years old now. I think we need to put the years in perspective. My Pinto is is now 42 years old. if I equate that to being 16 when I got my license I'd be looking at a a 1931 car!

What kind of standards do you have for used pinto. I see some projects and runners for around $1500, pretty regularly. Given our lovely climate though, expect rust(and maybe some moss and/or mushrooms), and expect there's at least 50%more rust than you can readily see. There are a few cherries out there too, but you'll be looking at the $4000 and up range. And sometimes you still just get a bondo queen with pretty new paint. There was a runabout in roy wa. a couple weeks ago, non runner, but complete and I think it was $700. If you have the cash ready, and possibly a trailer, you can score one for a decent price, just keep looking.

It's crazy how long ago the 70s were. Feels like it should have just been 30 years ago.
