wheel backspacing question
« on: September 14, 2015, 06:10:40 AM »
found a nice of center line rims for my 79 bobcat but i'm concerned about the backspacing for the rear. they are 15 x 7 and i was told they have a 5" backspacing. i'm not sure if 5" backspacing will work without a spacer.

4" backspace will just touch on the upper control arm. With a 15x7 wheel 3" backspace will allow the wheel/tire to fill up the wheel well just right.  5" backspace will not work without a spacer of 1" or more.
Its better to be a has-been, than a never was.

Will they fit on the rear?

I have a set of 15x7 Mustang 10 hole wheels on my 75 Pinto. They're 5" backspace and the rears clear fine. The fronts didn't. The upper ball joint bolt heads dug into the rims and locked the front tires. I shaved the upper ball joint bolt heads and a bit of the upper A frame and added 5/16" wheel spacers L and R. the wheels clear completely now, EXCEPT on a full lock right turn. Then there is a rub on the R/F wheel. The rubber is 195/55-15. Also like Dick says with the 5" backspace, the wheels are tucked into the wheel wells pretty far.
