Title: What is this? Green box above glove compartment
Post by: pintoguy76 on July 26, 2013, 10:41:34 AM
What is this green box above the glove compartment on my 74 wagon? Anyone know? My 76 and 79 pintos didn't have it...

Can it be removed?

I got one in mine but it's black, that's probably the controller for the seat belts car won't start unless the seat belts are fastened, was a one year thing and you probably have a reset button under the hood on the left side fender well too. I'm sure it has been bypassed though, mine won't start unless it's plugged in but I'm sure that can be bypassed too.

Yes I am sure mine is bypassed and there is a red button on the left inner fender. Wonder if there is some way to clean that thing outta there, wiring and all, to clean things up a bit.

If you can get in the car and start it without the belts on it has been rewired, I'm sure it can all be removed just have to trace all the wiring, it would be easier to trace if it was in the manual though but it isn't.

Yeah, that definitely looks like the interlock system. If the system was rewired it should be easy to find the splices. The under hood button may already be out of the loop & could be removed entirely but I'd be cautious & start simple by unplugging the underhood switch & see if it starts. If so maybe you can just tuck the wiring into the harness & remove the button.

Nothing happens when I push the button on mine, but it won't start if that circuit board isn't plugged in, now I'm curious gonna have to take a closer look at that.
