Has anyone used this carb from Summit? I'm wondering if it's any good.

Don't see why it shouldn't work, I'm sure it comes with a warranty.

Being from summit I would think that it would be a decent carb. I might give it a shot.

Just get a real Weber, a K&N filter, and be done with it. (Your stock air filter could probably be made to work, but I always thought they were way too restrictive. Then again, I'm a 72 model, so I'm emissions exempt even in California. lol)

I think I will go with a real weber. Plus the stock air cleaner is ugly as sin.

I would. New is always better than reman'd, no matter the car. Where are you located? You're an 80 model Pinto, so...emissions could be a factor. If so...idk what to tell you... The rebuild kit for my carb went up 250% from 2/12 to now (per Autozone's website, if they can even get it now...)

Last post brings to mind a question. Does anyone know where I can get the power valve rubber diaphragm for an early 5200 by itself? Looking for the one that is simply on and off rather than the one which meters fuel over a slope like the later ones do. All I really need is the rubber itself, saw this issue becoming a problem in the future and modified one diaphragm shaft I had to drill the top and tap for very small screw and washer, now I can fit rubber diaphragms from other carbs that have different shafts but use same rubber there. Thinking Ford makes both another 2 bbl. and one of the 1 bbl. uses it as well. Trying to find a supplier of the diaphragm without buying the whole stupid kit.

I'm interested in your Power Valve mod. I have a 73 2.0 with what I believe to be the original 5200 with a rebuild kit put in by PO. It has a slight surge at around 60 +MPH and I have wondered if the Power Valve diaphagram might be leaking, if they can do that. All I ever heard about them doing was blowing out with backfires. Would a 73 be one that meters or is it newer ones.?

Thanks

I have a 1979 Pinto that had the same stock smog carb on it. I rebuilt the original carb and it still ran like shizod. In desperation I pulled a filthy old carb off a 1976 Pinto for $25. I cleaned it up and put it on. The car ran a world better!

I believe the earlier model years of the 2300 motor had better carbs because they did not have as much smog crap designed into it. The 1979-80 carbs are definitely different from the earlier years  of the 2300 motor and are at the high point of emission controls.

Just my experience.

The '73 should still be one that is either all on or off, the metering ones were used in the early feedback cars, or the ones with electronic fuel control. You have to be careful with vacuum line setup if using a later metered power valve, if not careful you think you have PV operating but it's not. Better to have the earlier on/off one anyway.

Look at the valve and seat, immediately obvious which is which, the on/off one simply uncovers a hole, the other one does it gradually with a long tapered valve there. If running hi-perf stuff you could burn some pistons running the metered one. IIRC, the metered one does not have a metering jet lower down in the passage, by itself it is the jet. The on/off one there is a lower metering orifice down in the hole further, the hole closed on/off is NOT the restriction there.
