What is different between a 79 and a 74 hood?
« on: January 06, 2019, 09:18:03 PM »
Are they really impossible to swap?
The latch and hood release cable are not issues, won't be using either. I know, not that simple.  :(
Would like to put my 74 front sheet metal on the 79, but I need to keep the 79 hood as it has had a scoop put on rather decently, better than I could do. I'll keep the 79 stuff on if I can't do this.
I know, wishful thinking, but it's worth asking about. :-[
Thanks,

Your 1979 hood goes nearly straight across at the front. A 1974 hood curves down considerably. Not close at all.  I'd opt for the 74 front too. The squared off design of the 79-80 front does NOT match the curves of the back half of the Pinto.  They look like two different cars attached together as one.  That said the 79-80 front works OK on the wagon because the square, blunt lines at the back are more complimentary.

You will have to chose between the hood scoop or the earlier (seemingly more proper) look.

Thanks.
Now that I see the pictures, it's Duh, I knew that, just couldn't remember. :-[
As far as the hood scoop, I'm going to have to have one regardless.
Guess for now I will leave it as is, but maybe down the road I can switch to the earlier style and get a fiberglass hood with a scoop.

Mine is metal, the PO did a really good job. Came off of a Cavalier if I remember right. Or maybe it was a Citation. My mind is like a steel trap. Nothing gets in.
