Title: What is a 2.0L oil pan supposed to look like?
Post by: Pinto5.0 on October 11, 2011, 08:32:27 PM
I finally brought my '73 home on the tow dolly monday. We stuck the 2.0 inside the car where the ratty passenger seat used to reside to get it home because I didn't want to have to unload it till spring.

As we were putting the engine in the car I noticed what looked like an oil filter sticking out the side of the oil pan. I didn't spend a lot of time looking but I did notice that it looks like the shell of an HP-1 filter welded to the pan but I couldn't see any welds & it's as thick as the oil pan metal & doesn't look like a backyard engineered part.

This motor was supposedly built to the hilt about 20 years ago & has been out of the car for 16 years awaiting a V8 swap. What the heck is up with the pan? Is this a way to increase pan capacity or something the aftermarket came up with 20 years ago?

If needed I'll snap a couple cell phone pics when I get a chance & post them.

I'd like to see a picture also, a stock 2.0 oil pan looks just like any other stock Ford pan, smooth side, slight kick out that follows the block.

First chance I get I'll take a couple shots & post 'em. I wish my good camera wasn't stolen last month, the cell pics are gonna zoop.

This was definitely added by someone. Once I got a good look at it it wasn't nearly as well done as I first thought. I'm probably going to need a pan. There is a big difference between looking at something in a dark garage versus the light of day. Wow, what a mess......

My guess is this was an attempt to add a quart capacity to the sump. It didn't leak & the pan is still full of oil after 16 years. I'm just gonna try to locate a stock pan & swap it.

If it has not leaked why mess with it......IE if it looks stupid and it works,it's not stupid.......
